How accurate is the temp reading in AMD Overdrive?

Thread Starter
I have a Phenom II X4 830 OCed to 3.1 GHz. AMD Overdrive is reading the temp around 40 C under full load. How accurate is this number? It seems very low, considering that I overclocked slightly and am not using any high performance CPU cooler (CM Hyper 101)
Thanks

I have had trouble before with Overdrive and CoreTemp,

if it seems to low, add 11-12 degrees Celsius offset.

Saying this, sometimes they seem to also correct them selves.

So to find out how true they are, boot into BIOS and let it sit for a good 1/2-1 Hr, noting the temp.

Then boot into windows, have has little as possible running (maybe even safe mode), let sit for the same time and compare.

But this is all subject to conflicts and variations due to different setups.

AMD I think reports socket temps and not core temps.

Thanks for your suggestions. 53 C sounds much more likely. I will try checking BIOS temps later.

I think it's what they recommend to use when your overclocking, and for me it's been very accurate so far

My BIOS is reading around 28 C, exactly the same as Overdrive. Either a faulty piece of hardware on my motherboard, or my chip runs really cool. Thanks for your help.

3.1 is not really a high overclock so that temperature seem just normal considering it's in bios and idle.

At 100% load, the CPU only reached 40 C, which seems very low.

I'm not experienced with the cooling of your CPU but once again 3.1 is very low overclock so it seem just about normal.
If you want to be certain just check using software's like HWMonitor but don't mix because it can create miss-readings.
