Yes I know about the cheap i5s at micro.

I have fixed the Poll! Sorry about that.

Still that's like 150-170 and I can get a 1366 setup with a rampage matx board for $250 total . That what I was thinking. How much gaming would a 920 at 4ghz be versus my core duo at 4ghz. I know faster.

I was thinking about just getting a gpu. I want eyefinity or surround at 4036x900 on my 3 dells. I was thinking of 480s because I get 2 for around or under $400 . But my board is crossfire only. (p5q-e) I could get 2x 6970s or 6950s but that would be more. How would a single 7970 work with a core duo and eyfinity? They are about 430 on the forum. I want to do 3 screen gaming otherwise I would just get a better card.

All you need is to get a better gpu, grab the best GPU you can get for thta 250$ and call it a day, it will be a tremendous upgrade, What is slowing you right now is the 4870, not the e8400. see f you can get a 570/560 or a 6970/50, or 2x6870 ( i dont know what they are going for used) but any gpu upgrade will be better then switching from 775 to 1366 and keeping the 4870.

Your e8400 at 4gig will keep up he pace at your resolution no problem.

Seriously, a 3960k and a 4870 still isn't going to get all that far on BF3. Grab a 480 from Newegg for $210 and you'll be in much better shape. (or get an even better card if your budget allows, but a 480 will do very respectably with BF3 I'd imagine.)

+1 for new GPU.

Also, I know 1366 is a bit cheaper, but when you can get a 2500K and budget z68 mobo on newegg for $300, there's no reason to go 1366.

For example: This Combo + $15 Promo Code for 2500K

1366 will be a good gaming platform til next-gen consoles release. I would still however recomend going with a cheap 2500k.

Im not going to do e8400 and 4870. The 4870 is going.

I want 2x 480s and am talking with two sellers now. But no sli board. Although they are cheap saw one for $50. If the platform is fine I may switch to ati cards and not have to spend on 1366. How does 2x 6970 do compared to the 480s, The 480s are faster but the 6970s have more vram. I shouldnt need it cuz Im only runny around 4300x900 or something close to that.

How about the new 7970? How does that do in eyefinity at that resolution?
7970 is basically the best single card in the world for multi-display. Drivers will be a pain but if you are already used to AMD drivers and don't mind with your 4870 no reason not to buy it.

Really? How many frames roughly would it give me at that resolution? Would I be able to max it out? I know it will max anything in single display. That compared to the 480s how would it perform?
ivy and sandy aren't that much better to be honest, not worth the price. My 930 keeps up with them just fine. I'm running gtx 570's in SLI also. If you can get them that cheap then I would get it, then over clock it.

480s will give you slightly better raw numbers most likely but there will be no microstutter with the single card and since performance will be pretty similar overall the 7970 would 'feel' better in games. I have no idea how many frames you'd get at that resolution just because it's totally game dependent. The 7970 is a good choice for multi-moniter though no doubt about it. I'd certainly feel better owning one of them then a 680 if I was on multiple screens even though the 680 will be faster in a few games.
