Lower profile mechanica keyboard?

Thread Starter
I have been hesitating in getting a mechanical keyboard due to the height of the keys. I am worried that the extra height will put a strain on my left wrist as a I game. Are there any mechanical keyboards with a lower profile? I would probably prefer the lower resistance Cherry Red keys. I also prefer full sized keys.

The missing 'L' in the title is a reason I looking for a new keyboard. smile.gif

I'm looking to buy a mechanical board as well, do you have it? If so, can you tolerate with the excessive branding it has? (aesthetically..)
I wanted to get the quickfire and then buy new keycaps but then with that money I could've just bought a filco or leopard frown.gif

I've tried it out at the MC near me. So far, I loved the tactility of the keys and the build quality. The only thing that makes me regret buying it is that it's not a tenkey (which I don't really need). As for the OP, the quickfire rapid feels like it has higher keys than the Razer BWU. But that's nothing a comfy wrist rest can't handle.

The keys look like they are inside the base, but is it really lower profile?

If you shop around for both the board and the keys you should have no problem coming in at a lower cost. Added to the fact that I see it as a major plus that you get the opportunity to get exactly the caps you want for your board and still be in that price point. If you go with the Filco or Leo and the change the caps you're just adding to the cost.

All the above mentioned keyboards sit at roughly the same height. Filco and the QuickFire are indentical. The Leopold is very close. Key cap height on all of these are also very close.

For shorter key caps, you'll want to look into getting either a Cherry Corp keyboard since they have their own line of keys that have a shorter profile, or getting a Signature Plastics keycap set from a group buy over at geekhack, or find a used set and install onto another keyboard. Keep in mind that a used Cherry set will not be fully compatible with most of the popular keyboards. The main problem will be the spacebar.

You can also consider using a wrist rest as it will level out your resting position with the keyboard.

You can also get a Topre for lower profile keys. However we are talking $300 to $500 keyboards.

Keyboard tray would be a LOT cheaper.
