[Solved] Battlefield 3 screen tearing?

Thread Starter
Hey I've been playing battlefield 3 since it came out I have about 145 hours played. I don't know what to call the issue I'm having at first I thought it was called screen flickering. Looked it up and people that are having the problem don't describe the same thing. So I looked up artifacting also not the same issue. Then I looked up screen tearing and I believe that's what my issue is called. Except compared to others my is really bad and it tears really fast. The only thing I have done to my computer is replace the bios chip and of course to do that I had to take out the video cards.

Though if I put the game in windowed mode it works fine. Also if I restart the game sometimes it can manage to magically fix itself...

Obviously vsync would be an option but I play at a competitive level and wouldn't want the mouse input lag to interfere with my aspect of gaming. Like I said I never had this problem before so I'm not sure what's going on. If you guys could help that would be great thumb.gif

BF3 tears like crap without Vsync on. That's the simple answer.

Playing with it on isn't going to affect your gameplay, unless your GPU sucks and can't handle vsync in which case the less simple answer is to save up and buy a new GPU so you can use Vsync.

If you want to be more competitive using Vsync, get a 120Hz monitor.

Maybe it has something to do with the latest patches since I've been outta commission for about 3 weeks now. I dunno. I'll try out vsync and see if I can't notice much difference with my mouse.

edit: that didnt take long turning on vsync makes it go even more crazy feel like im gonna have a seizure lol.. i'm not epileptic but I've had a history of seizures hehe

I never get input lag using vsync with any game on my 5670, sounds like something else is causing your input lag. What mouse do you have?

If Vsync made it even worse than you have an odd issue on your hands..

What is your GPU? Is BF3 the only game going it? Do you have any other DX11 games you can try?

Any OC on the GPU? If so, turn it off until you resolve the issue.

Try low graphics settings and work your way up, see if you can pinpoint anything causing it such as AA or something like that.

Going to have to try some trial and error, this is an odd bug.

Try the latest drivers, if you recently updated look for an old revision and go back to it after cleaning up the newest drivers with ATI tool or something - see if that helps.

Good luck!

I run 2x5850's as stated in my sig rig.
They are overclocked but that's nothing new since I got the game simple overclock in Catalyst Control Center to 775 / 1125 but will try that.
All my settings are set to medium and the only thing on is ansitropic filtering x4 been the same setting since i got the game also but will try lowering them all to low...
Haven't updated in like a couple months they were running fine before I replaced the bios chip any ways. Does any one have any issues with 12.4 drivers don't wanna upgrade then regret not only that but once you find stable drivers you don't wanna change cause it's hard core stuff to uninstall, reboot, clean, reboot, install new ones, reboot and hope everything goes ok if you know what i mean.
Might try 12.1 since those were pretty good drivers unless someone with crossfire 58xx series can recommend 12.4 drivers
Thanks!

It doesn't sound like an OC issue to me, more of a driver issue. I'm using the 12.1 preview drivers because I find I get the best performance out of my 5670. I would try going to 12.1 to see if it helps. Good luck thumb.gif
