"Though at 1920 we also see another interesting outcome: the GTX 580 SLI beats the GTX 680 SLI and GTX 690 in minimum framerates. This would further support our theory that the GTX 680 is memory bandwidth starved in Crysis, especially at the lowest performance points."

NVIDIA’s performance in Shogun 2 has undergone a seesaw experience from one driver revision and patch to another. Back when the GTX 680 first launched, it displayed excellent performance in this game but a major patch rolled out on March 22nd seems to have kneecapped framerates across the entire GeForce product range. Scaling from a single card to the GTX 690 remains excellent but AMD absolutely dominates here. We’re told that NVIDIA is actively trying to replicate and address the issue. Considering the quick response they’ve shown to other issues in the past, we have confidence that a solution will be found and rolled out as soon as possible.

Heck, Crysis 1 was more optimized than Crysis Warhead, for example. And Metro 2033...this is notorious for performing exceptionally well on AMD cards. The red team always gets a laugh out of this one, since Metro is a TWIMTBP game, yet always runs better on Radeon cards for some reason. No reason to get all up in arms when the 680SLI/690 doesn't win in EVERY game.

Lets not make this about the 7970. Reality is the bandwidth limitation does show itself in some games but others nvidia thrashes. Real story here is the 690bandwidth is one of the better scaling dual gpu cards ever. It reminds me of the 6990 in a lot of ways.

You're kidding, right? You only posted the games in which the 7970 CF wins. There is always going to be some games that play better on some cards. Read a full review with all the games before trying to incite a pointless "my GPU brand is better than your GPU brand" flame war.

Thanks!

Also remind me what games we should play with cards like GTX690? maybe Resident Evil? Far Cry 2? Deus EX? who cares for those games? we all know what games are getting cards to their knees and that are best to bench with....for me the fastest cards in Crysis/BF3/Metro 2033 are the ones that counts, if you get fast card for Crysis it will play almost everything without problems (if you got no drivers issues that is)

And no, no Crysis version is more optimized the other, they just toned down the graphics, Crysis>Crysis Warhead> Crysis 2.

Im not fanboy! but this cards are joke to me, what really counts is GTX780 in future.

Id agree the card is overpriced. If any card is worthy of being a grand though this is it.

Im not fanboy! but this cards are joke to me, what really counts is GTX780 in future.

I would still play all those "other" games even if I had another 680 or a 690. I don't buy cards just to play/bench Crysis or Metro. I buy the card because I know I will be able to crank up almost all settings in almost all games without issues and in future games, that will be more demanding, I will not have to worry. It isn't all just about getting high FPS in Crysis. It is still pretty playable at ~30-45 FPS that you could achieve with older cards. Hell, I played the Diablo 3 beta and my card downclocked to 650 Mhz core to keep 60 FPS. Does that mean I shouldn't even care about Diablo 3 because it isn't demanding enough?

In other words...you can play any game you want with 680's SLI or a 690. thumb.gif
