Sure, Photoshop has more features and is better in many aspects, but Adobe has over 4 BILLION USD per year to play with. How many developers do you think that pays for?
Meanwhile, the Gimp developers have *nothing*.
And it's not "freeware", it's open source.
Don't belittle the Gimp. Help it grow instead, so that you can look back on this day as the day you freed yourself from your Adobe masters instead of the day where you did nothing and let yourself be a slave to the corporations.
Start using Gimp more seriously - yes, it's painful in the start but the hours you spent learning Photoshop weren't easy either. You just didn't think you had a choice.
For some use cases, you still don't, but the shackles of corporate oppression can be cast off in waves; and you can start now.

Next step to get some of the FLOSS developers to grow up and stop with the stupid names.
Nailed

Yup, it's definitely the immature FLOSS developers that need to grow up.

Hmmm... So the fact that I sign my posts "Nailed" which is a play on my user name "thenailedone" which is a nick I got many years ago and I decided to use on an on-line forum makes me immature? Or is it the fact that I think a name like the Gimp (a stupid person; MORON; IDIOT. / a person with a limp, injury, or handicap that impairs their ability to walk fluidly) is not suitable and a better name is warranted?

Neil (time to grow up I guess)

PS - I added "some" as I have lots of admiration for the thousands that in some shape or form influence and create the awesome FLOSS software I get to use...

Na... Neil

You can pronounce it anyway you want. If you have a problem with the acronym, then by all means, feel free to call it by it's full name. I don't think anything of it myself.

+1 for using Gimp professionally.

I use it every day for work in editing enormous orthoimages. I was using Gimp 2.8 RC1 about a month ago but it was too buggy to work with. Hopefully now I can go from 2.7.6 to 2.8 and get the GPU acceleration I need thumb.gif

I would rather use gimp professionally, but its not quite there yet. If I ever started an indie game studio however, everyone would use GIMP smile.gif

I have grown more accustomed to using the GIMP actually just because I have been around it more than Photoshop. Using the UI, windowed or non-windowed, doesn't really matter only because I know my around everything already.

Photoshop on the other hand seems like I just moved out of my 16 year hometown into the big city. I recognize a few tools and filters in the UI. The big thing about it is having to learn somethings that I could do already in GIMP like zooming with the scroll wheel as one example which you can't do in Photoshop.

Anyways, its nice to have a new version out.
