Chiller vs Direct Die

Hey guys just wondering what is the aproximate performance differences between a chiller and a direct die. Also how do you stop the CPU waterblock from freezing over in a chiller loop?

Direct Die Pro's

--Easy installation

Cons
-- limited space for tecs
-- no upgrade path
-- limited performance


Tecs also have diminishing return at around 35-40dt

If your looking for something to put on a mild oc'd <95w dtp processor you can get away with a direct die block

If you want something to cool a power hungry processor your better off with a chiller

If you want to go subzero your better off with phase change.

Sorry for the complete noobish question - In a chiller setup, is a normal waterblock on the CPU and then somewhere else in the loop the TEC cools the water? And the radiators cool the TEC?

yep.. A tec chiller consists of 2 loops where the heat is moved from the cold loop to the hotloop by the tecs and then disipated from the hotside loop by your radiators

Chillers will give a better upgrade path to an extent and possibly better cop and performance but direct die blocks are easier to install
