Xeon 3060 > C2D E6600? - Page 8

can anyone get some benchmark comparisons between the two cpu's. I'm still currious as to how different they run there.

also any differences in overclocking vs the equiv conroe cpu under the same situations as well as voltage required to do such overclocking.

plus temp differences I would be very happy

Trying to get some benchmarks of a X3060, which I have partial access to. I will link them if I manage to ascertain a time period to access these chips for testing purposes

I'm trying to do some good searching on the web myself but it doesn't seem like I am finding a whole lot here.

since I have been away from computers since the good ol days of the 300a has the xeon ever really been an enthusiast chip? if I remember right the xeons just started comming out about the time I decided to leave the computing world and back then I don't remember hearing a lot about them other then server work

Bump.

So what is the verdict? 30X0 or E6X00? In terms of overclocking and performance?
The Xeon 3000 series are the better overall chip, in terms of performance, reliability, branch prediction, and in terms of production quality.

As well as performing mathematics slightly faster

That reminds me, I should have some more advanced benchmarks of the X3060 tonight, when I get some time with it. Most will be from the SPEC2000 and 2005 benchmarks, which are far more sophisticated than any you will have used
post #78 of 114
Someone else did a really good comparison of these two chips. the bottomline was that they're identical in every way.

That might be because they do not look deep within the workings of the processors themselves.

As for people like me, we go beyond what specification tells us, before making serious reviews of products.

We will straighten this out later with my SPEC2000 and 2005 benchmarks. I expect these to show that mathematics can be assigned and processed faster on the X3000 series. Whereas MMX is missing a few instructions, as they have been placed within the SSSE3+ registers instead.

are you giong to test a e6600 with them or are the benchmark programs easy enough to get for us?
