(UPDATED) [Phoronix] Electronic Arts At Ubuntu Summit; Linux Games Coming? - Page 3

I would likely switch to Linux as my main OS if this were the case though I would still need to boot to Windows for adobe apps. Yes I know there are linux alternatives to those but I spent a lot of time in school learning Adobe pshop etc and I don't have the energy to relearn a new system when I am so proficient with Adobe.

I refuse to use wine, it makes no sense to me when I have a working windows install to spend my time making things kind of work on the wrong OS.

Hell no... from a personal point of view, using wine is terrible, it feels like one big chunk of Bill Gates inside a peaceful Linux garden.

EA announces that they're giving people something they already had... Why does this not surprise me?

The only thing that is keeping me on Windows is the lack of proper blu-ray support and Team Fortress 2 otherwise I would make the full switch over.

Though I dislike EA, when the bigger names; Steam, EA and such start racing each other for AAA native Linux games, the Linux community wins.
It takes competition to get changeovers like this to happen.
Other companies will follow suit as well.
The timing is great (And Planned) because of the huge failure that Windows 8 shows itself to be, so many people would move to Linux....but haven't because of very little gaming.
This will hopefully push companies like Adobe to release a Linux version of their CS collections.
I like the way this tide is turning, Thank you Microsoft for putting out an OS that few will want.
They are putting together (The Package) otherwise known among us Linux folks as...... dpkg biggrin.gif

Ye I know dpkg stands for Debian Package, but it is cooler when you think of it as [ Da Package] lol

im kind of confused by this. it seems PC games get the shaft fairly often because the gaming development industry revolves around consoles for the most part. i understand this is because PCs are a small piece of the pie. but PCs are obviously popular enough to warrant some (sometimes little) effort to bring titles to the platform. i just dont see Linux users (which are just a small part of an already small piece of pie) being a big enough group to warrant the development time.

i suppose i am wrong in the assumption that there arent enough Linux users out there waiting for games to come along to make it profitable. just surprises me.

Linux can already provide great graphics using OpenGL. Its the developers who are stuck to the Direct X teat.

On another note Valve has been working on a native port for the steam client and the source engine for over a year. So I believe they will make it to the table first

If this is anything like their Mac ports, it'll be embedded WINE...
