[Atomic MPC] AMD gives the 7970 a boost (to 1GHz) - Page 26

The 7970 is really a great card and will definitely meet or exceed performance numbers of a reference 680 with this boost. Both cards are truly neck-and-neck but the 7970 has so much headroom.

That said from a consumer standpoint, I made the decision to sell off my 7970s for a pair of 680s because of the software. Especially so with SLI configurations as they are just faster to respond to new games coming out.

Totally agree with this. Drivers have become a real problem for AMD cards. It's not just performance it's hurting either. Most games the 7970 runs fine but at this point their reputation is taking a hit especially since we're less then a year removed from AMD saying they were going to start really pushing their driver team to be more proactive.

Well then I'll just be content to say that 7970 CF is 100% smooth at 1080p in all games except the couple where drivers don't work (Skyrim/TW2).

IMO all the complaints about "smoothness" on 7970 CF at 1080p are somewhere between unique/rare occurrences and total nonsense.

This,

Mind you my two cards had different bios' for a while which caused stuttering in some games! (Mainly crossfire platforms, Duh!). You guys should check the VGA bios'... They run alot smoother now! thumb.gif

Well some reputable sites like [H]ard|OCP have been complaining for a while that CF isn't as smooth as SLI. I don't see any reason why they would lie. Some people just don't notice microstuttering or input lag from vsync.

CFX right now is definitely not as smooth as SLI.

Should be obvious to people with the scaling numbers that CF is not as smooth as SLI.

Regardless as long as you're able to hold 60FPS which you will be able to on both set ups you will never notice.

It's true, just not everyone can see it.

Apparently AMD GPUs don't stutter much at all if you have TriFire.

This, it happened with 3x 6850's/6870's and I assume the same thing happens with 3x of any card, it's just the architecture i think personally.
