lowering crossfire 7950 temperatures

Thread Starter
Hello guys, I created a thread concerning my idle temps a while ago. Now I am trying to see if there is a way to lower them.

I'm running 2x 7950 with dual displays and my idle temps are at about 50c (non overclocked)/55c+ (overclocked). I was under the impression that because I'm using dual graphics cards, the load should be taken easier, thus having much lower idle temps.

Well apparently my logic is severely flawed and I can't seem to understand why. Is there any way I can lower idle temps? If this is completely normal and ok then I guess that's fine with me too. It just bothers me that I'm running at 50c-55c as opposed to the 32c I had yesterday before dual displays.

better case? increase the fan speed? what brand do you have? (asus/msi/whateverbrand/reference)

better case with more airflow could decrease the temperature, but of course it would be costing more. Increasing the fan speed will fare better temps at the cost of noise, depends on the model.

Work out which card gets the warmest and make sure that one is placed in the bottom pcie slot not the top , or the extra heat coming off the other one will not help an already warm card =)

This happened to me with my 6970's , the top card ran 10c hotter .. swapped them around and it closed that gap by quite abit .

goodluck .

Only other thing u can do is swap coolers or drown it in water wink.gif

You can try reapplying some thermal compound yourself see if you get better temps , if your up for that .

or as stated try a better air flow case ..

move to a cooler climate

put it in the fridge

thats all i can think of =p
