U2711 or ? for gaming!

Hey guys!

So I'm looking to maybe sell my screens, i'm tired of games not working in eyefinity and just want a single, beautiful monitor. rolleyes.gif

Atm I have:

1x acer h243h
2x asus ve246h's

Can anyone recommend a good upgrade? I really would like a 27" if I'm going single. I was looking at either the u2711, but would like some opinions on it or anything else.

Thanks guys!

I think the 24" would be the sweet spot for gaming.

Thanks for the response! smile.gif

I've got 24" monitors now and would really like a bigger screen if going to one. I can't justify selling 3 x 24" screens to get 1 x 24". I can justify the bigger screen + bigger resolution + better quality however. thumb.gif

That and the 27" is like $50 more here in AUS biggrin.gif

The Dell u2711 has AG Coating which has an effect on the PQ, some like it, some don't, from my experience, the AG Coating makes the images displayed on-screen look grainy and dirty. Also, the u2711 uses FRC to effectively make it a 10-bit display, but this also has an adverse effect, the colors displayed on screen become over-saturated. I loved mine while I had it though. My advice would be: see the u2711 in person first before you pin your money on it.

I had the U3011 myself and i will probably end up getting a u2711 at somepoint. as long as your are not crazy with response times it will be a great screen.

@gsv883 in regards to the over-saturated colors, you could just turn on SRGB mode if you are worried about that

^ yeah, I forgot to mention that, thanks for the correction. You can also remove the AG Coating on the u2711 yourself, but, I wouldn't do it, its risky and could possibly damage or even destroy the screen completely.

i have a U2711 for gaming and no problem with it best buy i ever did with my two 580 lightning:)the image quality compare to a normal lcd is nothing to compare but again response time are not super fast but i dont see a big difference when you have 60 + fps it should be alright.

The current top choices (For 27" models) would be U2711 if you want a wider gamut and more connections, HP ZR2740W for lower input lag, Samsung S27A850 ffor a light AG coating instead of the more grainy ones of the IPS matte choices, or one of the korean 27" models for a low pricepoint (and a glossy panel (which is also available in the apple cinema display 27"))

Bit depth is not what creates the effect of oversaturated colors. It's the wide gamut of the u2711. (Mainly) Reds and greens are noticeably oversaturated when running a wide gamut monitor on sRGB content without sRGB emulation or program-side color correction. The two are not the one and the same.

I'm really glad I did not get the U2711 and went with one of the Korea ones even with a Sypder4 and 3rd party stand more than $300 less. No AG coating and input lag less than 10ms versus 30ms on the U2711.
