Always the newest you can get? That's a load of crap.

There have been a countless amount of new things, that are crap. For instance, Faildozer.

Hearing about all these 2500k's running cool with 212 is making me jealous... My 4.5Ghz is stable at 1.33 vcore and I load at 75-80s on Linx. Even on prime the last time I ran an overnight I peaked at 75's... What am I doing wrong?

keep in mind that Linx and Prime95 are going to stress test the crap out of your CPU, nowhere near real world use (at least according to my use), 75-80c at 100% load I don't think its bad. How hot does it get while gaming or while doing what you like to do most?

First off, can you fill in your rig builder so we can see what you are working with?

But, to answer your question, most likely it is one of two things: either the TIM you are using is no good (I always use Artic Silver 5 and it seems to work great) or the cooler isn't seated properly. There are many factors that can effect the temps though, but those are the two most common heat issues. Try taking the cooler off completely, reapply whatever TIM you are using, I generally just put a pea sized dot in the center of the CPU and then press the coller down in it, trying to keep it level while you do, then secure the cooler. If this does not work, you could try better TIM, but there could be other issues.

My next question would be what is the ambiant (room) temp of the room the computer is in. If the room is hot, the chip will run hotter. Next, are you running any air cooled GPUs in the case? When I had my 2 GTX460s in the same case (all air cooled) my CPU ran about 10C hotter because the temp in my case would go up (but my GPUs ran at 75C each, making the inside of my case very hot, even with running 8 fans in it).

To give you an example, using the Artic Silver 5 TIM, the Hyper 212+ in a push/pull config, installed as I stated above, a 5450 GPU (which doesn't really run as the system now runs on its own, I have no monitor hooked up to it), 8 of THESE fans (in addition to the 2 on the Hyper 212+, so 10 fans total in the case), all in a Corsair 400R with an ambiant temp of 22.7C (73F) and my CPU temp never gets over 55C running at 4.78GHz with 1.43v. This temp is while the system is folding (so CPU at 100% on all cores). I can't tell you what the temps are while running Prime or at idle as this is my team challenge folding rig, so it is alway running full out and I have never tried to run Prime since folding will pick up more instabilities than Prime will anyway.

K I updated my rig. I'm not really sure what the room ambient is when I stress test, but I always run the computer at night with the outside ambient fluctuating between 14C to 16C at night. My room is probably 4-5C hotter if I had to guess, but there's no thermometer in my room to be sure.

Although I'm running a 5 fan setup now, when I did the stress test I was on a 3 fan setup with 1 front intake with AP121 and 2 exhaust with the stock Fractal case fan. I'll re-seat my heatsink tonight and test again. Currently using the MX-4 TIM, with the half-pea setup.

The 5770 I have is a variation of the normal diamond on my rig builder and feeds the air into my case, so it probably does increase the heat inside by quite a bit.
