You either 'get' the game, or you don't. Most younger gamers, or gamers that didn't play D2, might not like the genre. For the same reason why your parents probably think the music you listen to is terrible, and vice versa.

I was a big fan of JRPGs on the snes when I was a kid. Then at the end of the snes life cycle i slowly transitioned into the pc gaming master race. I played the first Diablo during my lunch breaks in highschool and I liked it enough to buy Diablo 2 when it came out. I still have the original box/cd.
I think after playing so many awesome online/offline RPGs over the years has spoiled it for me. Besides the whole easier to sell in game items for real money deal theres nothing else that stands out for me.
Or maybe Lineage Eternal is what changed my mind on what a modern top down view rpg should be like
