i7 950 with Corsair H100.

Hey all.

I have an i7 950, with a corsair H50 currently, and it's clocked at 4.1ghz., 1.27voltag, and it does not go over 84c with Prime95 running. I have a CM Storm Sniper case, but I have ordered a NZXT Switch 810.

I am thinking of switching to an H100, and putting it in push pull with 4 fans. How much would this benefit me? Do you think I would be able to reach 4.5ghz with it?

Thanks.

This should help thumb.gif I would have to say yes you would hit at least 4.5ghz

not really. maybe 4.2-4.3ghz I don't expect a huge jump in overclocking with the i7 950

this chip was used by my cousin with custom h20. his oc was 4.3ghz.

yeah it depends on what your chip is capable of, but reading other post i have seen 4.4ghz with an i7 950 (h100) and they were getting 70c under load. so temps would probably be ok with an h100 but depends on your cpu.(meaning what voltage it might take to run 4.5ghz) I should ad also that some people are getting lucky with those temps. according to the little chart up there you would be at 64c right now if you went with an H100.ahh i have to keep correcting myself. been a bad morning. going back to bed lol.

I have a 240 rad that is better than a H100 on a i7 930 that is at 4.5 ghz with 1.46v and it breaks 80c sometimes depending on how hot it is in here. It's usually about 75-80F. I also wanted to say I have scythe ultra kaze 2k rpm fans on it.

What is the max safe voltage for the 950? I thought it was 1.35?
Wouldn't that make your OC at 1.46v, very risky? Sorry, I am not a very experienced overclocker, I've only taken my 950 to 4.2, but ended up at 4.1 due to the temps.

1.45v max under air or water, keep your load temps under 85'C at all times.

Ok, thank you:)

and at 1.45v thats really not a 24/7 voltage as its the voltage that can shorten the life of the processor more so than the heat.
the heat can be controlled by the cooling system and lowering the vcore voltage. 1.35v is the recommended 24/7 voltage.

Allright:) I will keep that in mind. Do you think it would shorten the lifespan by a lot though? I plan on upgrading to Haswell once it's released. I was originally looking at Ivy, but the performance increase didn't really impress me enough, so I am not asking my 950 to live for 5 years.
