Performance per watt is a massively important figure. You may not think so, but OEMs do. OEMs make AMD and Nvidia lots of money.

Does anyone on this forum truly care about power consumption in high end cards? For me it's a curiosity more then anything. I will buy the fastest chip in my price range period regardless of power consumption. I have a feeling most of you feel this way aside from when your brand of choice is doing better in power consumption and then your all for it.

Any card that requires two six pin connectors is not efficient. A 7770 is efficient. It's lulz worthy that people think the 680/70 is 'efficient'. No it just sucks twenty watts less then the 7970. Hardly impressive by either one of them. At least I admit it though.
