Right. I am maxing 82c with prime, but was 62C after gaming for few hours. I might try to hit 5Ghz soon. I know it will be low 90s on stress tests and stability test, but that would be around high 60s or low 70s in gaming.

The thing is these are raised voltages---you can't go by TjMax/105C unless you're at default settings so we all have to pick a reduced maximum for ourselves.

Anyway, it's too early to know what's safe and what's not safe for Ivy Bridge.

Its the 3d transistors, not tim

The benefit is making more room inside the processor

It will be worth it in haswell

12 hour prime run 89C @ 5.1ghz 2600k
12 hours of folding at home 63.

that's with water cooling, Prime is unrealistic, just the same as furmark was for GPu's Nothing out there gonna make your cpu get that stressed (Excluding IBT and linx)

It is not that they are using TIM instead of solder, some guy removed the IHS and put his cooler directly on the die, and still got crappy results. I think it is because they have reduced the size of the chip and they still have the same amount of power going into it as sandy bridge. Meaning the same amount of heat but less surface for it to dissipate through, meaning higher temperatures...

Must have been some really weird WUs that your CPU did if you've got 25C difference between prime and F@H. I get the same temps with both. Maybe 1 or 2C higher with prime.

Two options to fix:
a)Try delidding and using better TIM under IHS
b)Talk to Gray Mole and buy a SS Cascade ph34r-smiley.gif
