56K Warning. NOPE.AVI . there's tons of pictures. I'd give it a few days to load tongue.gif

Anyway. Parts list:

Intel Core i5-3550 (Yep, Ivy Bridge)
G.Skill Sniper 8gb (2x4gb)
Biostar TZ77B motherboard (nothing special)
Mushkin Chronos 120gb SSD
Western Digital 640gb Green SATA
EVGA GTX 560 TI FPB (Free performance boost)
Cooler Master HAF 912
Cooler Master Hyper 212+
Cooler Master R4 120mm fans (x5)
OCZ ModXStream 700 watt PSU
HANSpree 21.5" 1080P LCD

Currently my PC is a 4 year old new to me Dell Vostro 1710.

2ghz Core2Duo
3gb DDR2 ram
Intel GMA 965
the 120gb SSD that's going in my desktop

After reading about some Newegg horror stories, I'm glad my stuff arrived well packaged.

20120507123841.th.jpg

First new Hardware parts I've had in 3+ years

20120507124021.th.jpg

I didn't realize how big the Hyper 212+ was!

Coolest case badge ever:

20120507134735.th.jpg

How I called the build complete the day the parts arrived.

20120507150730.th.jpg

Not bad for my first attempt at Cable management.

20120524192606.th.jpg

Today had some new toys arrive, time to finish this build up for a few weeks!

The box is bigger than my case!

why not get a unlocked K processor so you can overclock?

Even if you think you'll never do it its quite easy and can prolong the life of your chip after newer ones are out by keeping the one you have up to par.

I don't intend to do massive overclocks with this build to start with. I just needed something to get up and running. I was going to get a 2500k, then saw the new Ivy bridge and for ONCE in my life I wanted current gen hardware! tongue.gif Normally my stuff is 2-3 generations behind.

I was $300 over budget as it stands. Tiger direct had the 3570K for $219 after rebate but I woulda had to pay tax + shipping.

The goods:

20120526111444.th.jpg

4x 12" Red Cold Cathode lights.
3x packages of Noise Dampener (can't beat the price. and it does help a little!)
2x Cooler Master R4 SickleFlow 120mm's (grand total of FIVE)
1 Each Bawls original, G33k b33r and Cherry (Root beer is good, Original is amazing. Cherry is just meh)
Grand total with shipping: $70. In addition to the $35 I spent on the first 3 R4's)

First mod of the day. 86 the hard drive bays.

20120524192618.th.jpg

bye bye HD Bays!

20120526131658.th.jpg

Bottom of the case covered. with a nice cutout for the 2.5" drive holders ( best thing ever)

20120526121659.th.jpg

Horrible shot of the top of the 5.25" bays covered (both sides)

20120526122256.th.jpg

Ghetto vibration dampeners:

20120526125251.th.jpg

SSD in it's new home. (I added the cover to the top because black then a big blob of gray looks lame.)

20120526131927.th.jpg

I knew I wasn't going to have room to put the Sound stuff on the side because of how I wanted to hide my wires, so I did the next best thing.

20120526124534.th.jpg

Starting to run some of the wiring. I really didn't expect that many wires with the Cathodes. Live and learn I guess.

20120526133941.th.jpg

Motherboard and GPU back in. I need to pick up an 8pin extension.

20120526142133.th.jpg

Rats nest:

20120526142934.th.jpg

Test run to make sure everything works:

20120526145110.th.jpg

First attempt at Cable management. Yeah.. I know I can do better than that!

20120526143310.th.jpg

Ghetto way to keep my 3.5" hard drive up. Half of a 3.5-5.25" adapter (Lost the other side) + long fan screws for my front fan

20120526150801.th.jpg

Second attempt. Better, but needs more work. Need to get cable ties.

20120526150757.th.jpg

ooh Glowy:

20120526152732.th.jpg

I didn't expect the Cathodes to glow where it did, but that turned out AWESOME!

20120526152749.th.jpg

It's new home. Hopefully it won't heat the room up quite as bad down there.

20120526155917.th.jpg

Desk (my laptop is under the monitor)

20120526170844.th.jpg

so yeah. All done for now. Sometime this week I'll probably dremel out the rear fan grill, and probably attempt to neaten up the wires some more.

Idle temps aren't bad. Not a totally amazing decrease but acceptable. I might add a rear exhaust fan. as it stands I have no fans exhausting the air. Plus I have one laying around.

temp2xl.th.png

Half an hour of load (F@H CPU + GPU)

load.th.png

THAT'S a dramatic improvement. Almost 10C under load!

I'll add a night shot and load temps tonight.
