How bad will prices drop?

I'm about to buy a 7850 and with the nvidia 690s I'm curious on how badly prices on ati will drop. If anyone as a education guess on price drops please let me know because if they drop a decent amount it might be worth getting a 7870 instead.

AFAIK, the 680 is going to be cheaper than the 7950 for practically the same specifications, so AMD would be crazy not to drop the prices.

I know prices will drop. I was hoping someone might have some insight on how badly they will drop.

There is a lot of speculation about an incoming price drop for the 7800 series because where it sits now is kind of ridiculous in terms of the newly cut 7900s. You can get a 7950 for $400, while some 7870s are running up to $360. Crazy. If you can afford to wait a little while, the price cut is inevitable.

*edit* but no numbers or dates are available yet.

There's no ATI HD 7000 cards, just AMD HD 7000 cards.

AMD has no reason to drop prices on the 7800 line in response to the GTX 690. That's like Honda dropping prices on their Civics after Buggati releases a new Veyron

How about rationality? Wanting something doesn't make it true. I don't think it makes sense for 7850 to drop in prices. 660ti is its competition, and that appears to be a ways out. Should 7870 drop? That's a tougher question, as the 670 should be out much sooner than the 660ti. 7870 is substantially overpriced compared to 7850, and can drop a fair bit with only a minimal drop for 7850. Prices have actually gone up a little, though they should bounce down a little at the end of May/early June with the increased supply (although it depends in part on how long companies like ASUS and MSI take to get their revised 7850s out). I'd still be surprised if basic/low-end 7850s dropped as low as $230 before MIR by June simply because it doesn't make any sense at all for them to drop further. Maybe a $230 powercolor - that seems reasonable because their basic 7850 is so bad compared to the HIS or Visiontek models.

Right now you can get a HIS for $220 after MIR, which is pretty aggressive on their part considering their cooler is better than the Powercolor cooler. I would be surprised if there weren't rebates showing up in June/late May as companies try to distinguish themselves. Factor those in and you might see a slightly larger increase. This is, of course, speculation - I've tried searching too for my own purchasing, and I can't find anything substantial.

nvidia wont drop prices until they get more then enough stock and there vendors get sorted out.

AMD wont have a price drop until nvidia gets there inventory up and their vendors sorted out.
