Hotflash P5W DH Deluxe

Thread Starter
Will I be able to use an MSI P965 Neo Mobo to hotflash the bios chip from the P5W DH Deluxe?

The reason is that ASUS boards don't support the new Intel core duo cpus and need a bios upgrade to post.

cheers

Nope... that likely won't work. The physical chip might be different, the board likely won't boot, and the BIOS flash will likely fail.

damn...

what do you suggest then? I would hate to install everything and find out that it does have the old bios that doesn't support the cpu.

I'd try outside the case. Just put the board on a flat surface, put in CPU + heatsink, one stick of RAM, and video. Then try to boot by shorting the power pins.

Taht should not take too long

Also, the BIOS chip on the board will tell you what it is. It is labeled with the BIOS number. Then just check the CPU support section of the ASUS website and see what CPUs that BIOS supports.

Alternativly, if it does not have the correct BIOS for a C2D and you don't have another CPU to put in and flash with, you can contact ASUS and they will ship you a new BIOS chip.

I thought all the P5W DH Deluxe boards support the C2D out of the box. You may need to flash if you have ram issues though.

Incorrect. You'll need BIOS version 1101 or newer. However, I would assume that new boards will ship with a recent enough BIOS.
