FAHControl does not use 7850 Gpu - Help

Thread Starter
I just started folding and downloaded the client and everything. (folding right now)
But it does not use my GUP at all

I have a I5-2500k (not OC'ed yet)
and a Sapphire 7850

FAHControl just uses my CPU, and I cannot make it to use my GPU too. If I try to add a new slot for the GPU and save it, nothing would happen.

Is there an something that I forgot to set?
I read all of the posts and could not figure it out.

Here are some pictures of the settings:

http://imgur.com/a/qi5lq

first picture is the default setting that it gave me.
second is what i tried to set (to make the GPU work)
third is the error message that I get.

Also what is the optimal settings I should use to get the maximum power out of my system for folding?

That looks right. Did you try and edit the CPU slot and turn it into a GPU slot or did you try to add a new GPU slot? If you tried to correctly add a new GPU slot (which is what it looks like you were doing) then I don't know what it might be. Maybe the 7850 isn't supported yet, they're pretty new, but you'd have to have an AMD GPU folder confirm that.

As for the optimal settings for a 2500k and a 7850 for folding they would be the client v7 with the client type advanced for the GPU, and then a VM like this one running on 3 threads of the 2500k (to allow one core for the GPU to use) would be the best IMO.

Not fully certain this will work for you, but you can try.

First, download the link in the first part of the directions.
http://folding.typepad.com/news/2012/04/support-for-new-gpus-such-as-kepler-in-the-v7-fah-client.html
This post will help you set it up the rest of the way through, but instead of a 680, it will say something for the 7850
http://www.overclock.net/t/1232673/kepler-folding-performance/90#post_17129492

Again, not fully certain if it will work, but I would think the method will work the same for any card that has yet to be given proper support.

edit: that is if it is not supported yet.

Okay I would not try doing it that way, follow these instructions to add a NEW slot.

ok I just tried jesusboots suggestion

and

the gpu is now in a new slot

but

it is still updating....
I only suggested that because I thought the 7850 may have to be "whitelisted" not even certain that is the right term. I know that the gpu.txt was to add a different list of gpus to get working, but am not certain it will work or not with the 7850.

Hope it does work though biggrin.gif

it works!

but the ETA is like 9 hours?
Yea, I suppose the 7 series are a little slower than other cards, but every bit of folding helps so just do what you can and it will help more than you know. There is much talk about competing here on the forum, and other hardware enthusiast forums but I think the real treat, and the reason behind the competitions is to encourage people to fold, to help to find cures for diseases. So even though it may seem like its going to take long, or you would like more points, just fold, with whatever ppd, or eta is going to be you can.

My 2500k's have 16-18hr etas for each unit. And I hear the -hugeadv methods for cpus take days. All for the same common goal.

Welcome to folding anywho! thumb.gif
