7970 or 680? 7970 is $160/$170 cheaper - Page 2

I'd go with the 7970 for that huge of a price difference. And BTW the 7970 OC'd will not BLOW a 680 out of the water, it MIGHT win a benchmark or two by a couple of FPS. Don't be ridiculous!

If the OP sticks to one card he should be well off.

CF can get nasty at times.

Ye they are close in performance when benchmarking etc, but when it comes to real in game performance it's bad. Look at the amount of threads where people are having TERRIBLE driver performance with the 7970's. Then look at the amount of users that have switched from a 7970 to a 680 and said its night and day better difference, seriously it's worth the premium.
When you are paying this much for cards why settle for second best thumb.gif

Oh and check out the amount of users that have returned their 7970s and reverted back to their old cards because of problems. Do you really want to have to send it back then have us say told you so.

360mm rad for just the 7970 seems a bit excessive though this isn't OCN for nothing. wink.gif

Hey crackerssss im in the same boat as u with the stupid prices. I used to own a 7970 and after months of driver issues i sold it and changed to a 680 and haven't looked back since. I was able to pick up a evga gtx680 for $500 + $50 postage off ebay because of how strong the aussie dollar is at the moment ( when i bought mine there was even cheaper 680s but i wanted evga ). PCG is way overpriced at the moment and they will be not dropping in price for a very long time going by the email i got from them when asking them about it. if your in no hurry just hold out and check ebay till something good comes along theres a few listed everyday.

There is a galaxy listed from the place i got my evga for 600$ delived. after u pay for your 7970 to get delived which im guessing you will it will only be like 20$ difference.

So are driver issues the same for the 6970 or only for the new 7000 series?

It would still be a $50 difference. Not sure where you got a 680 for $550 here, but I've been checking the bay and have never seen a reliable seller selling a decently priced 680.
Btw Pccasegear aren't OP, look at gamedude if you want dodgy pricing haha. Everyone complains yeah, but everyone complained about the 6970 as well. I never experienced a single hiccup, hell I've never had to uninstall drivers or anything. I really don't understand the fuss tbqh.

Also, i'm not buying a 2nd hand card, whats the point buying 2nd hand when I have no idea if the previous owner has probably nearly killed it and is getting rid of it because it's screwed. Nty wink.gif

Thankyou all for the input.

edit: they're $750 on ebay. Not sure how you can slam PCCG when they're $50 cheaper.

If this is aimed at me, If the 7XXX series driver 'issues' are like the 6XXX series drivers, I will definitely be getting a 7970. Never had an issue with 3 different mobo's, different combinations, different 6950 and different drivers.

I linked u a galaxy gtx680 for $550 or $600 delivered from a reliable seller which i got my evga from brand new and is at least $130 cheaper then PCG after delivery. I have no idea how u can say the cheapest is $750 when i provided u a link to a $200 cheaper item. Hell if your near an MSY they are $100 cheaper then PCG. Not everyone on ebay sells second hand products there is a lot of stores who ship brand new items.

but u are going for a 7970 so doesn't matter since this only really applys to people trying to get a 680

not everyone has had driver issues with 7970

people have also bought 680's and had problems, even swapping back to 7970's

It just depends on your personal preference as to how you use your pc.

My 7970 oc's very well, runs bf3 in eyefinity no problems - stays around 40deg on load
7970 was cheaper then a 680 by about $150 when I bought mine, no reasons to complain so far.
