Looking for a new AM3+ motherboard

Thread Starter
Currently I have a Phenom II x6 1045t & M5A78L-M LX PLUS Socket AM3+ 760G mATX. I bought it as combo at micro center when I first made my PC thinking I would not be too worried about over clocking, but I was wrong. Which is unfortunate because at the time an upgrade would not have been all that much more, but I dropped the ball.

I have found that as I learn more about overclocking and computers in general I have become way more interested in it. So my question, what is a good AM3+ board for under $100 that will give me some room to overclock? I have a CM 212 waiting, so I should also be able to keep my CPU decently cooled.

I was considering the ASUS M5A97 AM3+ or this
Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Id recomend getting a soild board to over clock one that will handle as hard as you want to push it as you seen you been bit by the OC bugspend 40 to 60 dollars now and have something that will handle what you want to do as well as the new chip set 990FX

I'm pretty pleased with my Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3
got it for $79 open box at Microcenter.
and so far it's been good to me... can even do crossfire (limited to x16 & x4).
Has all the connection you'll ever need...except e-Sata rolleyes.gif
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3907#ov

It does not have integrated graphics...so a graphics card is required.
other then that.. it's a good, cheap board. thumb.gif

The egg currently has a Biostar 990FX board for a little over $100, listed for $114.99 ATM. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138341

I ordered one of these last night to have a backup for my AM3+ stuff if the CHV ever craps out.

Here's another one of a lesser model for just under $100 BUT you will have to pay shipping to get this one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138348

Personally I'd pony up the extra few $$'s and go for the 990FX board. These have been stated as actually being decent to good performers and they do have some results to back up the claims as to how well they can perform.

It's really up to you but this is the cheapest 990FX chipped board you can get if you want the 990FX chipset.

That's fine, I am not looking for integrated graphics. Also, it appears my micro center also has them for $79 open box + $10 rebate, however, then there tax. Anyone had issues with micro center open box items?
