The vast majority of players spend their first 10-25 hours getting stomped (less experienced players might spend even longer), and the maps are huge, complex, and take time to learn. Same with the gun mechanics. Planes and helis are certainly easier to learn, but still take time to master. The fact is its a team based game were for the most part strong team work will trump a team of pro lone wolfs. That said players can become particularly strong at certain roles with lots of practice and the skill ceiling is more than high enough for a large scale team based game.
Compare this to MW3 were a player can start coming in first place after just a few hours.
People can keep whining because its not as hard as bf2, which I agree, but I don't think that makes an easy or poor game.
Don't mistake this post for me claiming bf3 is perfect, its not, but its not an easy to pick up run and gun game either.

This is not how it goes it COD, you will get stomped if you are new to the game for quite a long time by the more experienced players.

Is this why my dad was able to keep an even kdr after playing for a few hours and never having played any fps games before? I'm not saying noobs are going to dominate, but COD is extremely forgiving to first time players. Couple this with no recoil and extremely quick deaths, anyone can pick up the game and do just fine. That's why it sells 30 million copies.

And that's half the point of it. Game are for fun. And people like being able to just pick it up, and do relatively decent with little to no learning.

Im assuming he was taking it very slow and methodical. I understand that he managed to go even KD against random people, but that does not mean he is doing good by any means. My first game of BF3 i went 45 and 15 sniping, it was not hard to do, I simply took my time.

That's not how they used to be. A good challenge and learning curve makes a game worth playing. If I can walk all over it, why even bother wasting my time?

I am surprised Black Ops is doing good too allot of people play it still.. but yah like someone mentioned they should combine all COD to 1 and save space on chart for other games thumb.gif

Ever since I've been playing games, that's how /most/ have been. Only a few have been even the slightest challenging, and even then it's more of a mental challenge than anything else, meaning just take a minute to think before you do. And most of the games I played like that were /usually/ rpg's of some type. FPS / Shooting games have ( imo ) never been challenging.

actually, having a kd at or above 1 means he does better than the avg player; ergo, hes doing well at the game. being better than the avg player means youre better than most (relatively speaking). this doesnt mean some one is and expert by any means, but you also cant be calling them bad. they can only get better from where there are when they pick up the game for the first time. when people are only excited about KD higher than 2.0 (or whatever stupid standard the cod community usually has set), that is a distinct indication that "skill" isnt exactly high on the list of attributes to do well in the game.

tbh bf vs COD is pretty close to an apples vs oranges argument. one game is heavily based on team play and objective modes, wile the other is based more on who can hold their own more strongly. the objective modes in COD can be run by a single player just because they can get KS's. everyone knows that if you go 45 - 15 in bf youll probably still have less points than the players who played the objective and went 15-45. i see this happen quite a bit tbh. Cod is good for some mindless goofing off and fast paced gameplay. BF is a little more tactical and methodical. TDM in bf is pretty boring tbh. only 2 classes are actually useful (assault and support), with one being slightly viable for a good spotter role (recon). the engineer class doesnt really have a useful spot in TDM. the rockets are used to blow holes in walls as they miss their intended target, AT mines and the repair tool have no vehicles to be used on and its not like the engineer gets a *good* long range gun . problem is people rarely play the classes like they should. the only throw down med packs/ammo if THEY need it. In COD you dont have to rely on people like that and you can support yourself with your choice of loadout. its perfect for just going out and doing what you want. you can roll in and just take a game all on your own, and feel BA while you do it.

i bet you cant tell i play both games redface.gif

Then you haven't played many FPS. I can tell you most FPS from 2000 and prior had established learning curves.
