Probably, I wouldn't know. To someone who's been playing simplistic run & gun shooters for a while, BF3 hit me like a truck. Everything from mind-boggling mechanic called suppression, to the visibility problems (suppression/dust/debri), the openness of the vast maps which allows you to be taken out by some distant tank or sniper or jet/heli which you didn't see, to the fact that you're pigeonholed into teamwork because trying to accomplish anything on your own is futile (it takes teamwork to a whole new definition).
Then there's the extremely limited kits. Oops your teammate died! Oh wait, you're not assault, can't rez him. Oops you're out of ammo! Too bad, you're not support, now find someone else's gun. Oh no, a tank/heli/vechile appeared! Bend over and take it like a man because you're not an Engineer and therefore stand no chance. For a game that is so INCREDIBLY dependent on everyone doing their role, it's pretty funny there's no VoiP.

No other shooter plays like BF3 (other than maybe BF2/BFBC2, I dunno).

I have not played a good online shooter since Return To Castle Wolfenstein.

I cant stand games with personal perks. I want more games where you either win as a team or lose as a team. If you lose you get nothing. If you win you win.

I think the personal perk and achievment systems have ruined most games nowadays online, especially FPS.

I think it's pretty neat that a single platform series even makes it on the same list as other multi-platform games.

If you think about it, if you go with the number there were 24 million original Xboxes sold (Wikipedia), that means that slightly more than one in every three people with an Xbox owned a copy of Halo 2 (~35%).

Also, if you go with the number of Xbox 360's sold as being 67.2 million (Wikipedia again), that means that the TOTAL sales of Modern Warfare 3 across ALL the possible platforms (360, PS3, Wii, and PC) divided by the number of sold 360's only gives it a 40% market share (and that's if EVERY copy of MW3 was sold for 360). If you factor in the PS3 market too (still ignoring PC and Wii), then MW3 really only sold to 21% of it's available market.

So long story short, MW3 really isn't that big of a seller if you compare it to the market share Halo 2 had on it's SINGLE available platform.

TBH I was rocking people from day 1. Coming from a long series of team oriented, large scale, highly-defined-roles, objective-based, vehicle heavy FPS games, BF3 is actually the simplest and "lamest" to date. It has come cool visuals and some fun toys, but its really not the big scary mind-boggling game you made it sound like ... At least to me.

I really wish today's gamers could go back and experience gaming before it became the crapfest it is today... or rather, I wish they had the volition to actually do so, as all the games still exist.

Rather than getting upset at and blaming people that are just playing the games they enjoy, blame developers/publishers for their inability to look beyond the Call of Duty market and create their own unique experience that will also sell.

They're so worried about pulling gamers away from Call of Duty that they're completely ignoring millions that want something different than Call of Duty.

Millions? I think you exaggerated there a bit. The overwhelming majority of gamers (all platforms considered) want more CoD, they proved this with their wallets not once, not twice, but FIVE times. The developers would be idiots not to bring them more CoD. Asking them to make something different is like asking a Chinese chef to make some Italian cuisine for the 5 people that like Italian (as opposed to the hundreds that come to him for Chinese food) and ignore his loyal Chinese customers. Why would he do that?

Anyway, other developers are trying to make something unique. Crysis, Battlefield and Arma are some good examples. But the fact remains that those games don't print enough money for the publishers, nowhere near compared to the way CoD prints money. Therefore the shooter scene will continue to be dominated by CoD (or CoD style) games, similar to how so many MMO's try to be like WoW.

Wow, I had no idea Medal of Honor: Frontline sold that well.

Glad to still see some Halo games on the list. For a futuristic sci-fi shooter series with so much personality and atmosphere to be the top FPS series on a mainstream console for quite some time was remarkable IMO. Nothing against all the semi-realistic games in which you control US armed forces, but while wildly popular they tend to feel bland to my tastes.

CoD sells its sequels on a the fact that every1 must have the latest version of the game, irrelevant of the price. If u don't get the latest CoD game then u wont be able to play with your mates from school. So you buy it, whether its worth it or not. I Teach in a secondary school and i watch it first hand, if kids want to be included in any sort of conversation for the next few months they have to get the latest CoD game.

It will take the gaming community getting bored of CoD as a whole to make activsion change something. Sadly, 13 y/o boys love repetitively shooting things while feeling like they accomplished something via Ranks/Upgrades.
