Anybody reading that article is going to wonder what the ultimate performance of said cards is going to be so comparing artificially low reference clocks is just useless. That's why I stopped reading official reviews and just go by what I see here on OCN. The members here get far more accurate results from their hardware than any review site I have seen....

I never said or implied that. It's a safe bet that members of OCN WILL overclock their cards, that's obvious.

Remember, this is NOT an official review. Most reviews will have an OC section. ALL reviews use stock clocks as the base, which is most likely why AMD is now raising their stock clocks all of the sudden.

If you already know that the 7970 OC's well, no need to get upset when reviews are done the way they always have been.

But if the 670 performs like this in new games, why would anyone ever buy the 680?

for the same reasons that people boughtvthe GTX580 over the GTX570....the GTX480 over the GTX470......

that edge in performance, overclockability, and most important!!!

Majin SSJ Eric is just butt hurt because he wastes his money on exorbitant pair of 7970 but are inferior to Nvidia's crippled model, GTX670. Which isnt even the flagship

I know that the 7xxx series was about 3-4 months earlier but man... AMD have their work cut out ahead of them.

this makes me more excited about the 660ti, or whatever they're gonna call it.

You are commenting without reading the link from the opening post. With both stock, the 680 is marginally faster than the 670. Clock for clock, I don't think you could tell the difference. Hence there is no reason to go for the 680, as you get the same performance cheaper with the 670. 470&480 or 7970%7950 (...) have a bigger difference between them.

You do realize that the 7970 is faster in most games clock for clock at 1600p. Plus it has 50% more memory and 40% higher memory bandwidth.

Lol! applaud.gif You got me, I'm so butt hurt its not even funny! Never mind the fact that I'm like the biggest Nvidia fanboy on this site! I also happen to enjoy FAIR comparisons, even if my own personal cards come up short. But yeah, I'm totally butt hurt! thumb.gif

Atham for a new build right now I would suggest a i5-2500k and 2 used 560ti's or 2 used 6950's. If you want to go AMD fx-8150 and 2 used 560ti's or 2 used 6950's. If you are not a fan of SLI and CFX like I am then get a i5-2500k and used GTX 580. People will be getting rid of their high cards from the last generation to upgrade you may find a sucker or two out there and get 2 decent cards for cheap.

I still think these new cards are way overpriced, it costing Nvidia and AMD much less to manufacture cards on the 28nm process. Nvidia will have a huge year financially because it costing them less to make their cards but they are charging people the same price and consumers are willing to pay for it. Amd should just get rid off the 7950 and price the 7970 @ $399 and reduce the price of the 7870 to $199. Two 7870's in crossfire should hold any gamer over for a long time. The thing that most of us are forgetting is that the new consoles will not come out until December of 2013. So we have almost another 2 years of console ports coming our way, which means that your GTX 580 or 6950 crossfire build is probably going nuke any new game coming out over the next 2 years.

I might wait and see how much these cards cost, but I'm feeling this might be my next upgrade.
