What PSU for Quad Sli 680 or Quad Crossfire 7970 ?

Hi

I'm looking to buy 4 x High end Graphic Cards like GTX 680 or ATI 7970.

-I currently have a 3930k overclocked to 4.8 Ghz

-I have 23 Fans

-2 x MCP 655 Pumps

-2 x SSD

-1 x HDD

-1 x BluRay Drive

Currently, I have an Enermax Revolution 950w, I am looking for another Enermax, but which one would be enough. I plan to OC these Cards a lot. I am looking at the Enermax Platimax 1500w, but I'm not sure it will be enough.?

For 680s your current PSU is sufficient... for 7970s you want at least a 1.2KW unit.... the Platimax is an average unit in all regards except efficiency.... here's a better iteration of the same platform(an excellent one for that matter).. you can buy that exact same unit from the reviewer himself here, that's an excellent price and considering he's also Canadian, few issues can occur smile.gif

950W is enough for four 680s? I hope you're kidding cause they have a 195W TDP so that's 780W just for the GPUs and I can guarantee that a 4,8GHz 3930K will draw at least 170W. Add GPU overclocks and about 50-100W from the other components and you're well over 950W.

@OP: You're looking at a roughly 1200W PSU if you want some decent overclocks on the GPUs which I guess you'll do since you'll be watercooling the GPUs, right?

If you want an Enermax PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817194096
According to JG, the best PSU on the market: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151109

Both have 5 year warranties, the Enermax is more efficient and more expensive while the Seasonic is a better performer (voltage reg, ripple suppression) and cheaper.

Yes and no... obviously I'm not kidding, but it's true that you can expect peak loads above 950W with four highly overclocked 680s and a ~5Ghz SandyB-E... however, if you know anything about the PSU in question you'll easily understand why that wouldn't be an issue. wink.gif

Is this serious? Number of power connectors is mostly about product segmentation and a little bit of money saved. Why not actually look at the electronics involved?

Next you'll be saying that TX650 V2, Earthwatts Green 650W, etc. can't handle two GTX 680s...

Now, if somebody is buying four flagship graphics cards and has that many fans with the intention of running heavy overclocks, that kind of warrants a top-end power supply out of principle, even if it's not necessary. If you want an Enermax though, I'd just get the Lepa G1600-MA as suggested earlier.

of course its a serious question. if it doesnt have enough power connectors to run 4 cards, then how will it run.....4 cards?

everyone is quick to throw out an X wattage PSU required without actually stopping to check if the PSU has enough cables to even support said hardware.
