Updated BIOS - now comp won't boot

Thread Starter
Man, this really sucks....................

I thought I had the chipset drivers all updated, so I used the Asus easy update and updated the BIOS (from 1002 to 1016), and now my comp won't boot all the way.

I can get into setup. Is there any way to revert back to old BIOS, using setup?

Help!!!!!!!!!!!

No there is no way to reflash the BIOS from the BIOS setup menu. However if you download the BIOS file such as a previous version or the new one again and flash it from DOS using a floppy that contains the BIOS you wish to flash with and the flashing program. Such instructions can be found at the Asus website here : http://www.asus.com/index.aspx

Thanks, but I can't find any directions on installing from a floppy. I called Asus and they said I need a new chip, so I'm gonna order one if they call me back.

This stuff is all way too confusing and frustrating.

You don't need a new chip at all, if you have a floppy you could try to reflash it to an older version.

Yes that is another solution. Getting a new BIOS chip will solve your problems however you can flash VIA a floppy . Go to your motherboards download section on that sight and look to the Directions for flashing your BIOS.

Well, I ordered a new chip from Asus. It will be here tomorrow. I wish I felt more confident that it will work.

I would try the floppy update, but I now have no way to create a floppy. I have a floppy drive on my main comp (the one that's down), but I don't have a floppy drive on my notebook (which I'm now using)..........

thanks

Pity that. However good luck with the new BIOS chip.

Well, I installed the brand new BIOS chip and it still won't boot all the way, it gets about halfway, then re-sets and just loops continually. It's doing exactly the same as before the new BIOS chip. This totally sucks....

Sorry, I'm kinda afraid to do anything as I don't want to lose all my data. If I boot from the Windows CD (assuming I can), would it be OK to re-install Windows?

thanks
