I would go with the SG S3 for sure, my experience with the latest models of Sony aren't good. In fact, my current one (Xperia X10 Mini Pro) isn't good, the battery in some point goes very...very hot plus SE won't give your the options to upgrade the OS in future.

Definitely the SGS3 over the Xperia 3. How about a HTC One X though?

I've bought the Sony Experia S recently and I really like it.
Positives:
Negatives:
If you have any questions about the phone just ask, I should be able to help.
One more thing, in comparison to samsung galaxy s2 I find the experia to be better, but I have no idea about how it compares to galaxy s3.
Positives:
- Camera-it takes good pictures
- User interface- it's really easy to use
- Cheaper than sgs3
Negatives:
- Build quality- the paint on the side buttons wears off too easily

Well to be honest, Sammy phones don't have good build quality. The point about the UI could be negated by switching a launcher or flashing a new ROM like CM or AOKP.

Samsung phones don't have good build quality? Compared to what? A tank?
If you want to flash go with the Samsung. If you want to run stock then get whatever you want.
I have owned HTC Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2, Evo 4g, and Evo 3D. HTC used to be awesome, now they have locked their boot loaders and do not allow a full unlock. They are no longer supportive of the modding community past what they are forced to do. The Evo 3D was my last HTC phone... the Evo 4g was supposed to be my last but a friend gave me the 3D for free, It has since been shot (literally).
I have only owned two Sammy smartphones (Epic 4g and SGS3) and many feature phones. Samsung does have unlocked bootloaders, standard hardware, and has the largest developer community. they have the community because they support the community. That should say enough int itself.
I would go with the Sammy, just because of the B.S. HTC puts you through to unlock a bootloader, only to have you realize that its not really unlocked.
