Maybe it's because of latency: Europe is not that big and is very densely populated so you usually have very low pings but still full servers. Most european countries also have pretty good internet, not as bad as what i have heard about canada and australia. And PC gaming always was the best option for online gaming.
Something else that i noticed from playing LoL: EU gamers are much more competitive than NA gamers, which could be another reason why EU prefers online PC gaming.

In the few times i've been to the US, I cant counter the number of pickups or SUVs that I KNOW arent being used for what they are supposed to be used for. Yes, there are the contractors, the builders, farmers, etc. That need to be able to pull 4,000 things all day, but then there's also the guy who works downtown (and never goes anywhere), but still finds the need for a V8 pickup with a full-cab, massive bed, etc. The later is much, much more common in NA. Same goes with SUVs. Although its European, look at the (aweful) Porsche SUV. Its TERRIBLE for off-roading, but thats what an SUV is supposed to do. Its a SPORT UTILITY VEHICLE. Its not supposed to be an upgraded mini-van.
That's the other problem. The average NA consumer doesnt seem to care about anything OTHER than looks. Again, with the car analogy. Look to the SUV or underused pickup.
It uses more fuel
Its costlier to maintain
It costs more
It pollutes more
Its slower
It accelerates worse
However, that doesn't seem to matter. Admittedly, lately they've started to get their act together, but even in the mid 00's it was still all about having the biggest SUV possible for no reason at all.

Yeah that was my point, we care more about looks.... Even if it's a small car it has to look good before I would consider buying it. Gas is cheaper here so we can afford to care more about looks.. There is nothing wrong with that. But I don't see any correlation between your car analogy and consoles. We buy costly cars but we buy cheap consoles. I don't see a connection..

On a side not I drive a 1996 Trans Am which is a gas guzzling fool but I am happy. I'm the one paying for the gas. If I wanted a truck just for the looks I would get one. That's just our culture. I find it weird this annoys you?

Some of the things other cultures do for the sake of vanity is just as wasteful. It's just human nature. biggrin.gif

I think its because they are general more savvy than americans and more likely to be willing to put up with the minor inconveniences of building a pc/updating drivers. American's are an extremely lazy group who wants everything done for them.

Consoles are advertised like crazy so masses are going to see that as more of an option than a pc for gaming. Even some of your games that are for console are on pc they are only advertised for the consoles. I can see why you say that it shoved down our throats. I prefer playing on pc because I like building them and I thin k it's funny that all friends are trying so hard to convince me to buy a 360.

Consoles are by no means cheap. I have yet to meet anyone who has spent less on console gaming than I have on PC gaming, and my hardware isn't "quite" a budget build. Even after I get a 7970 and my vanity water block, I still won't be anywhere near their budget.

Oh, and my PC has never blown a single circuit causing the whole thing to be rendered a useless piece of shoddy plastic. I have one friend who's been through 4 Xboxes and 3 PS3's, and he takes good care of them. My PC? I had a motherboard go out, but only because I overvolted my southbridge during some hot weather like a genius. And it still worked, I just had to tune down my OC until I got a replacement. Would have never happened if I wasn't pushing the limits on it.

New motherboard: $100

New Xbox: $200 currently, with a 4 gig drive?... Seriously?...

Edit: And none of that took into account that I only spend about 20% of my time gaming. The rest of my time is spent doing things an Xbox and PS3 can't. Nor the fact that PC gaming is quantitatively a superior experience.

Why would anyone do that to a friend?....

I'm not arguing that in the long run someone spend just as much on a console.....but when mom is looking for a "cool" xmas present for the kids a $200 xbox is going to look much more appealing then buying a new PC. Period! no debating that! This lead to kids being accustomed to consoles as they get older... I for one was one of these kids but as I've gotten older(29yrs old) I have got into the hobby of PC gaming(which only happened due to PC exclusive games). If I was into Shooters I would likely still be a console gamer.

You can throw out all kinds of hypotheticals but the entry cost is lower on a console. No way mom is going to want to stick a $200 video card in her PC then have to share her PC with the kids. Just doesn't work that way.

This is why american are console gamers......I don't know why the rest of the world is what it is but this is what I believe to be at the core of Console Centeric gaming here (COST) is everything. True cost or perceived cost

and it's great you do more then just game on your PC, I think most of us here do. But that's not the goal with Mom's xmas present

Yeah I will agree, that's true. Cost is everything.

I just hope next time "mom" is gonna get their child a new laptop for $500, they look into getting a used PC.

Sadly another problem is lack of information. Where are people supposed to learn about computing? OCN? You joking right? There exists VOLUMES of information on this site alone, that will take mom hours to look through and then hours more to comprehend.

It ain't easy building PCs. That's another problem, knowledge. I doubt mom even knows what video cards are, or that the computer case is not synonymous with HDD
