MBP with 2560x1440

Thread Starter
So, I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro, as is in my sig. My question is that will I be able to run a Yamakasi Q270, one of the OC versions, off of a miniDisplayPort to DVI adapter at 2560x1440? I know that I will not be able to run it above 60hz, but do you guys think that I will be able to run at least Minecraft or Starcraft on the new monitor?

You will need a Mini DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI adapter. The Apple adapter is known to have issues and they are $99. Kanex makes one too, and Monoprice has one for $65. I believe the Monoprice branded adapter is actually the same as the Kanex just without the Kanex branding.

I saw it, and it says that it is a Thunderbolt adapter, and my MBP is one without thunderbolt, so do you know that I will need that?

with my 13" MBP 2010, and an apple cinema display gaming is horrible. even when switching between desktops in os x lion, i can see lagging. the only game ive tried was COD 4 - the mac version. on low settings it runs about 25 - 45 fps.

I have Apple Cinema Display but I was answering to the question if the MBP is able to handle that resolution.

Mac system aren't meant for gaming. Why bother?

Well, I will mostly be using this for productivity usage, for a couple of weeks until I am able to build my rig after finals, but do you think a MBP could handle a game like Minecraft that is very CPU-bound? Or does it not work at all, also leery of getting a $70 adapter for just a couple of weeks of usage.
