Gigabyte GTX 670 OC Version *HANDS ON* - Page 112

I hit 1.3 Ghz with no problem, I haven't found the limit of the card yet (I just put in a random start point and saw I hit 1.3 Ghz stable and stopped, lol):

204

Uniengine (I have an array of 1680X1050 monitors so couldn't do 1080p full screen, had to do it windowed and Uniengine shot out some weird resolution instead of 1920X1080 (got 1920X1037, lol):

695

Hoping to hit 1.35Ghz stable. This card is rock solidly quiet and cool too (idles at 26C! My 5870s under water idled just 1C cooler; it peaks at 55C and is completely quiet at that). Really liking the card so far!

A Gigabyte 670 OC used to be 530$ here in Turkey, they were sold a lot and the remaining ones are now sold for 650$...

Nice taking advantage of the market.

Seems I got really unlucky jealoussmiley.gif

On stock clocks (OC clocks from this Gigabyte), I get 1150mhz with the boost.
For now, the GPU can't take more than 1050mhz (1215 boost) which is +70 core offset ......
Did not OC the memory yet.

Oh well, I'm getting used to lose at every GPU lottery ! It was the same for my last two cards, 8800GT and HD4870 Vapor-X 2GB mad.gif

Edit :
- 1215mhz core clock max in FurMark
- No real improvments after 1728mhz memory clock.
- 61°c max in 3DMark 11 41% 1890rpm
- 31°c idle
- 72°c max in FurMark 48% 2460rpm (98fps)

As fast as this card is, I actually get some lag in very messy areas while playing D3. Dips to 10 fps! Possible driver issue? I have a friend with a 680 which also experiences this. Actually many of my friends with cards that should be overkill for D3 all lag when things get messy and D3 shouldn't be that demanding.

I'm 99% certain that that's server related or software related. Blizzard tells you your connection is rated "green" if your latency is anything below ~300ms, which is garbage. I can't think of any other games that could get away with that. I have little FPS hiccups sometimes when things get hectic, but other times I maintain 60 fps even during intense battles.

Thats about where mine turned out. Had a crash yesterday at 1230.

I have a feeling if the DCII pops up on the egg one of these days I will take a gamble on one.

Taking a DCII does not mean you'll necessary get higher clocks rolleyes.gif
On the DCII TOP sample from the Guru3D review, they couldn't do more than 1280mhz core and 6958mhz memory (mine is 1215 and 6912, higher mem clock does not improve anything), yet the ASUS has a bigger price ... http://www.guru3d.com/article/asus-geforce-gtx-670-directcu-ii-top-review/23

Brettjv got his Gigabyte up to 1345/6450

My card could have been a DCII, it could have pass the clocks easily

I'm well aware of this rolleyes.gif

DCII was the card I originally wanted. Got tired of waiting so I grabbed a WF but was hoping for a better clocker. Pretty sure if I don't over pay for the DCII I can sell it for what I paid pretty easily. Who knows. I want a card that OCs well. May just be my OCD. BUt it bugs me.

Yeah, but they overclocked the card improperly. Jacking the power target to max and leaving it there is not the best way to overclock kepler. They probably could have got an additional 20-30mhz on the core if they used a lower power target. Also, their memory is at 6958 MHz (1740) which more than compensates for the "low" core clock of 1280, as most people with 1300+ core are barely getting 1600mhz on the memory at the same time. The Asus models all seem to hit ~1750 memory and at least 1280 core. We also don't know how much fine-tuning they did with the overclock. Based on the review it sounds like they only spent like 1 minute on it. I bet they could have got at least another 100mhz on the memory too. Also, the fact that half their overclock page is a cut/paste of worthless information like recommending that novice overclockers only increase the memory/core by 5% or to back down from an unstable overclock by 20mhz is just wrong advice. I don't trust Guru3D to test anything properly based on everything i've seen of theirs. Their margin of error seems massive.

Holy frijoles guys! You're not gonna believe this sheet! As you all know that I could only hit ~43 FPS in Heaven maxed settings @ 1920x1080 with +100 core clock and +550 Mem clock offsets. So thinking about what brettjv was saying about there must be a bottleneck, I decided to look into my BIOS. Combing though there, I didn't see squat. Then I thought about just moving the card from the 3.0 slot to the 2.0 PCIe slot. Guess what? I hit 50.3 FPS in Heaven with the same settings but now in the 2.0 slot! So all along, it truly wasn't the card!

My mobo is in my sig rig but to save time: ASRock Extreme7 Gen3. I haven't upgraded to the Gen3.0 BIOS so I dunno if that make a difference in all this but just putting that out there.

I am now hitting higher core clock offsets that are stable that I could before. What are relief!!!! wheee.gif

I hope this helps others that are seeing similar issues as I did. I'm now off to see what max FPS I can hit in Heaven! sonic.gif
