I think for everybody who has a side panel fan, this might be worth a shot, just to experiment....

It actually makes sense to use it like that.

Let us know how it works out. I cant test before July 3rd.

Hey OC slave, did you keep the factory top 200mm as exhaust? All you did was change the factory 200mm intake, to an exhaust right?

I have an NZXT Phantom 410 case maxed out with fans (2 120mm front intake, 1 120mm bottom intake, 2 140mm top exhaust, 1 120mm rear exhaust, 1 140mm inside and 1 140mm side intake).

I ran Unigine 3.0 back to back with everything maxed out and my cpu hit 55C and gpu hit 60C. I then took the side fan and made it exhaust and ran Unigine back to back. The cpu hit 58C and gpu hit 63C. Then I put the side fan to intake again and ran Unigine back to back. The cpu hit 57C and gpu hit 60C.

I used HWMonitor to check for max temps and cleared temp values every time I switched the fan.

For my case, my side fan works better as an intake. I hope this helps someone. smile.gif

I prefer intake as well it blows cool air directly into the GPU.

As far as I know the 680 one does. I think it fits decent with no modding but the screws just barely fit. But if you dremel out one of the screw holes on the backplate it fits good.

thanks for the heads up...I thought the Gigabyte models would benefit from side exhaust fans considering the way their fins blow air side to side.....not the traditional front to back like on ASUS DC2 and MSI TF3 models

yep EVGA 680 backplate fits with some modification, I posted an image in this thread with what you need to do. But here it is anyway. smile.gif

Basically you need to use the screws that come in the GB card as the EVGA ones are too big for the GB cooler. And you can only use the holes marked with yellow as they are the only holes that GB use. Also you need to grind down one of the screw hole lugs as it will bow the backplate (it doesnt clear part of the GB cooler). Pretty straight forward. Hope this helps if you are looking to do it.
if you dont grind off that lug it will put excess pressure on the mounting screw closest to the lug, and you could possibly strip the thread.

Hey Guys...

I'm not sure what to do... I guess I'm happy with my card, but after reading some many "success" stories...and the card on average getting 1250mhz on core...

The card came with only 1110Mhz boost and was only able to push the card +70 on core. If I go with over +80... Heaven would crash.... The card however allows me to o/c mem...+700

So my final stable clocks are 1180mhz on the core (boost) and 7500mhz on memory ..

I wonder how much am I losing in performance between 1250 (average o/c) vs 1180 core clocks? Is it like 5% in performance = 3-5FPS in games?

Does anyone know if reseating heatsink could help temps a little? Would I void Gigabyte warranty by applying my mx4 paste on it?

Also I might try putting GPU in different pci slots, some users reported better clocks on pci 2.0 vs. pci 3.0 slots....

I know 70Mhz is not much, but it is in my head... I cannot get rid off it... LOL .... I'm even considering returning the card (not sure if I can).... however the wait for replacement (out of stock) or waiting for Asus TOP 670 (preorder) might be long....

I just put together a new system IB 3570k @ 4.5Ghz on z77 mobo, 16gb ram..... and I'm a little disappointed with GPU... redface.gif

Please advise...

You actually got a better overclock than my GTX670 ...
However, I can get +70 core and +250 mem stable within unigine heaven, which is NOT stable in Battlefield3.
Unigine is not the most stressfull test you can do, and certainly not reflect what you can get in games !
To run BF3 without crash (stable), I need to set my overclocking at +40 core and +90 mem .... mad.gif

Your limit at overclocking has nothing to do with temps (are you around 60°C in Unigine ?).
My card only drop the core clock once I reach 80°C (manual fan control at 20% or so), it gets up to 70°C with Furmark, OCCT GPU or Kombustor.
I only get 60°C withing BF3 or any other demanding game.
