He says he did try to OC with the Gigabyte software, so perhaps he was successful and simply didn't know it. Either that, or he OC'd the card on purpose in order to stir up the GTX 680 owners on here.
Then, with the card overclocked beyond the stock factory OC, he ran 3DMark11, and after the score was displayed either he (or the Gigabyte software) reset the clock speeds on the card, so that's why GPU-Z is showing the stock factory OC'd speeds. I'm thinking that a GTX 670 clocked at 980/1059 boost would score in the range of 8700-9000 on the graphics score in 3DMark11.

If your theory is correct, the GTX 670 is still a beastly card!

Either the OP "accidentally" overclocked his Gigabyte 670 beyond the factory OC'd speeds, or somehow the Gigabyte software is overclocking the card. Perhaps GPU-Z cannot correctly read the clock speeds on the 670 yet, so it's displaying the factory OC'd speeds.
I could certainly see a 670 with a boost clock of around 1200 MHz beating out a stock GTX 680 by a few hundred points in the 3DMark11 graphics score. But other than that, I can't think of a logical explanation for why our 680s are getting pwned.
That will not help my score at all. Trust me, I just upgraded to this 2700K a few weeks ago from my 2500K, and my 3DMark11 scores definitely did not go down after the 2700K was installed wink.gif

Oh I know it won't help it, but just wanting to see clock for clock comparisons.

More importantly I'd like to see more tests from the OP, to see if his score is consistent. wink.gif

We're all baffled by this.

See my post a couple of posts above. I think my explanation makes sense given what we're seeing here.

Unless the OP can post a video or other proof showing the actual clock speed of the 670 while running 3DMark11, I think that it must have been overclocked beyond the factory OC in order to attain such a high 3DMark11 score.

Of course. I'm not denying that it's a great card. But there is a difference between a great card and a card that beats Nvidia's single GPU flagship while having lower clock speeds and 200 fewer CUDA cores wink.gif

I don't think he did anything.

I just ran 3dMark again on my stock Asus GTX 680. http://3dmark.com/3dm11/3354334;jsessionid=7zkk78cv3cnudvt8mmdj1k63

The GPU Score is 9551. My regular, boring, reference GTX 680 runs that test at a consistent 1097 to 1110 Mhz without touching anything.

He has a far far superior cooler on a factory OC card. All that is going on appears to be the magic of Nvidia's auto-clocking. Even with a slightly crippled card, if it is touching ~1200mhz or even less then the score seems legit to me.

I don't see why the OP would stir up the GTX 680 owners here... but anything is possible I guess!
