Make sure you stress it with a few programs - I quite like MSI Kombustor myself seeing as it's easy to setup and comes with Afterburner. Run Kombustor fullscreen for about 30 minutes I suppose. BF3 is also a good stability test if you have it! thumb.gif
If you're getting artifacts, up the voltage! If you can't up it anymore or it's getting too hot. Bring back the clockspeed! Otherwise if it's stable it's good to go for 24/7 as long as you're holding to temperature/voltage constraints.
As for warranty, some companies allow it. Some don't. I know ASUS it well known for overclocking/overvolting and warranties - Same with eVGA. I'm pretty sure MSI allow it along with Sapphire.

Well i made a separate thread already but, since you answered here : i haven't changed the voltage at all, afaik it's locked anyway for 680s. So it's just clock speeds.

And the part with the warranty..once again.. everyone says they can't tell if you OCD but it voids warranty, but who cares if it "voids" warranty in theory if they can't tell you ocd? biggrin.gif

This,
I've seen a few instances on processors where they can check the highest clock on the CPU. I'm not sure if this was bull**** but you should be fine. As long as you're not over-volting it lots or overheating!

Good luck with your new GPU! thumb.gif

Gigabyte's 670 model appears to be a non-reference PCB, so they might have upped some components from the reference PCBs, which we all know are HALF the size of a normal 10/11" 680 PCB. I am very curious to see the OC-ability of reference versus non-reference 670s when they are released this week.
That said, judging by what the OP and his friend have provided...Gigabyte OC'd 670s should sell like hotcakes on release day. 1350mhz+ core speeds that perform better than what max OCs on 680s can do? Nvidia has a lot of explaining to do...or needs to release drivers that somehow unleashes more power within the 680s, because this is not going to be acceptable if Kepler's boost OC matters more than an actual, entire SM of 192 cores being removed on a 670 and yet still beating a 680. just because of the clocks...

Dunno why so many people keep talking about nVidia having explaining to do, execs getting fired, or whatever. This is GIGABYTE'S doing, this is a non-ref card they created. The TweakTown 670 review (presumably w/an actual nV reference card) shows no such results as what we see on this thread.

If anyone has 'explaining' to do, I'd think it'd be Gigabyte, having to explain to nV why they made this card have so bloody much boost that it undermines ALL their partners ability to sell 680's.

And guys, I can pretty much guarantee you that the driver for the 670 and 680 are one and the same, because there's no reason whatsoever for the driver to act any different depending on which of these two cards is running. They're identical cards aside from a cluster being disabled in the 670's core, so the driver should be the same for both of them. If perf on one goes up, it will also go up on the other, IOW.

This entire 'discrepancy' we see has come about because GB has made a non-reference 670 that boosts to a higher max clock than the reference 680's. It's not nVidia's 'doing'. In fact, I bet they're pissed.

We hadn't yet verified if the PCB was non-reference when I said that. It was speculated that they could have been using reference 680 PCBs as well.

Other with that, I agree with what you're saying...although it remains to be seen how the reference 670s from a variety of board partners will do before we can all ultimately come to a decision...which I mentioned above as well.

Although, I have to say...I don't necessarily see how it would ENTIRELY be Gigabyte's fault that they used a non-reference PCB and achieved these results. I'm assuming the design has to be validated and passed on by Nvidia to some extent, though I could be wrong. But allowing higher clocks that ultimately surpass the performance of a 680 just because a board partner used a different PCB would be an entirely silly thing to pin on the that particular partner...because then it begs the question of, how much harder would that have been to achieve with a 680? It's not like they used a different chip...they just happened to achieve better results, and it gives them the edge against other partners in this regard. Nothing wrong with that at all, in my humble opinion.

Well i'm not entirely sure why the 670 can clock up to 1380 or w/e that was. I got the same model only that it's the 680 (gigabyte oc windforce) and it only clocks stable at like 1270 or so.

Exactly. My point being that partners usually will have SOMETHING that they try to entice customers with in competing with other board partners, be it bonuses, giveaways, extra performance or non-reference designs, etc. If Gigabyte did nothing but use a longer PCB and literally the exact same other internals on their 670 and it achieved and/or beat a stock 680...how in the world can you blame them for that? The general feeling is, Nvidia sells them a GK104 chip with ONE disabled SM, and off they go. It's not like they did something that hasn't been done by other partners with other cards, be it EVGA's Classy editions, etc.

If board partners using a different length PCB with 670 chips allows them to surpass a 680...then i'm sorry, but that's not their fault. I don't think that's what's going on here though...I really do believe that the 670 just performs darn well compared to the 680. We've only got a few days until we know for sure though...
