it better be ins tock.

I expect the situation with the 670 to be worse than the availability of the 680 since the price is lower, hence more attractive to a wider market.

If they're swimming in partially defective cores it could mean greater supply, but these cards will likely sell out as quickly as GTX 680s do for quite some time. I'll likely be grabbing a GTX 670 or HD 7870 in the near future wink.gif

I'm just happy if the 670 will be releasing with non-reference models straight off the bat. It has not been fun waiting for the premium 680s, let alone the 4GB versions.

You know what this thread needs? Some CLOCK FOR CLOCK comparisons on Heaven and 11. A 670 and 680 owner agree upon some clock they'll run their boost at (say, 1200?) and then those two benches are run. Wouldn't hurt to see some other free gaming benches as well ... AvP, Call of Pripyat, and LP2 all have free stand-alone benching apps, all are DX11 and give cards a good run for their money when maxed out thumb.gif

I think once that's done we'll all be enlightened as to whether the 670 is really some magical card, or whether it falls behind by the expected amount. That amount is, IMHO, going to be just under 1/2 of the % shader count difference, roughly, on average across different apps ... just has been the case with the 2nd tier AMD cards for the past few gens.

Yup, this ... Hard to speculate how hard these cards will be to get w/o knowing the 'slightly faulty' chip supply.

I don't think it will be any more fun trying to nab a 670, either. Especially not with how common knowledge their *perceived* early performance is by now.

Maybe duo to the fact nvidia is using the same technology to detect volts/tdp/heat and boost upon those variables, the gtx 670 is performing very close. Think of it like this, when a benchmark that stresses the gtx 680 to its threshold, it will work at its boost clock (which we all know it can go higher than 1050) but keeps clocking a bit down and up. With the gtx 670 duo to lower tdp/heat it can be consistent at the specified boot clocs, thus giving high results.
Or could be a bottleneck in it kepler arch as well as amd's, maybe 256 bus?

so im paying $50 to get the 680 from my 580 on evga stepup. should I just get the gtx 670 for stepup instead? won't have to pay anything then

If performance matters the world to you. Wait for further benchmarks. Chances are the 670 will be as impressive as it seems - it's just good to know for sure. Plus you will see how non-oc-edition 670's perform. Those will be a bigger step down from the 680. How much? That's why we wait for further benches.
