Gigabyte GTX 670 OC Version *HANDS ON* - Page 47

Voltage does relates to heat generated that does relates to TDP.

The relationship is the Ohm' law combined with Joule's law.
The way that the card calculates that is what differs. Your GTX 680 could use an internal thermometer, or could calculate the heat based in the current voltage or yet use both and confront the results. I don't know which is better.
But if I need to guess I would say that thermometer (alone or combined) would be better, since better VGA cooler, means potential less temperature, that means higher dynamic clocks.
Looking only the voltage, the card wouldn't know if you have a proper cooling solution or not.

EDIT: Now that I read again your edited post I understood what you mean. smile.gif

Thx for your information Psikeiro thumb.gif I've been looking for this result but I prefer single card both in vantage and 3DMark 2011, if you dont mind smile.gif But its ok if you dont wanna test it or post it wink.gif

How come we have non-refence card before reference? or is it usual to have both on launch?

Possibly because they're the same GPUs, just clocked lower. They could have had them as long as they've been getting GK104s.

I wonder if the reference model will match 680 stock performance while overclocked. If the 670 non reference is being sold for ~$420 USD, then this would mean that the short version would sell around $380.

You mean you pre-back-ordered? They could very well not have enough stock on release day.
it looks like you preorder it on shopblt.com and then they will order accordingly from the manufacturer. There was only 1 person who placed an order before.

Now, I'm convinced that the person who sold the OP his GTX 670 is, in fact, an undercover Gigabyte rep. setting out to promote their product by letting loose the top binned chips before launch. Or, he himself IS that Gigabyte rep. ph34r-smiley.gif LOL

Conspiracy theory aside, I'm glad I haven't pulled the trigger on GTX 690. 2 x GTX 670s (non-ref) seem more like the way to go. Thanks to all 670 owners, esp. the OP. Cheers.
Also, is there any GTX 690 owners reading this thread? Please post your scores for comparison. Thanks.
