Gigabyte GTX 670 OC Version *HANDS ON* - Page 62

I picked up one of these today for the new system I'm putting together, after reading through most of this thread, a few of the GTX 670 preview articles and Tweaktown's early review of the stock model. I've been an AMD/ATI user for quite a while (partially as I had a brother-in-law who worked for ATI here in Canada, and could get cards a bit cheaper), but after reading all the favourable opinions thus far of this card, and the price/performance ratio it's shaping up to have, I decided to go with one of these. I do a fair bit of work with video, and CUDA seems much better supported in encoding software than any acceleration via AMD cards. I also intend to get a bit more into PC gaming again, which I fell out of a while back, so I figure this card should serve me well for that purpose, too.

Unfortunately my system isn't quite finished yet, so I can't add to the benchmarks being done here (although I suspect we'll have quite a lot as of tomorrow from official reviews, anyway), but I joined up to let anyone in Toronto, Canada (and the surrounding area) know that these may now be available at a few of the popular computer stores. I phoned ahead, and they had the exact model being showcased here, Gigabyte's OC Windforce edition, in stock and available (but not able to be held). I decided to buy one now as opposed to next week, when my new system will be ready for it, just in case supply for this card ends up being as variable as its big brother.

I picked it up for $420 CDN ($419 USD, according to XE.com). They didn't have any stock 670's, so I can't say how much that will be going for.

Wow! That's a gorgeous system, nice and clean looking inside. I'm still using a super old overclocked Q9550, EVGA 780i FTW with a pair of GTX 275's. It was pretty impressive back in the day. I hope to upgrade in about another year or so probably starting with a modern video card. The next time I have mine apart I'm going to paint the inside my case black like yours. I have an old Coolermaster CM690 which is still a pretty nice looking case. I might even powder coat it when I get a full size oven that I can use. I can't believe how that GTX 670 is only about the size of the old 9800 GTX. So have you considered sticking the old 9800 GTX in there for a Physx card?

Just picked up the same card for $420 ($470 including taxes). Quite surprising. They only had 2 MSI GTX670s (reference) and 2 of these Gigabyte cards (of which, I took one) for tomorrow's launch at the same price. Going to wait out to see if any model tomorrow strikes me as worth ordering/grabbing over this.

Thanks! I really enjoyed building it. The 1100 makes it so easy to do with ample space n holes all around.
(I assumed you're talking about my case based on 9800gtx comments smile.gif)

I'm completely intrigued. I've never heard of this before. Can you elaborate?
Do I just plug it in and set it up in physx tab of nvidia control centre?
Sounds great!

What does it do? help CPU perform physics processing?

That's also where I got mine.

Another Toronto store @ College & Spadina is also listing two EVGA GTX670 cards on their website, stock and superclocked, for anyone who isn't specifically looking for the Gigabyte OC model.
