Gigabyte GTX 670 OC Version *HANDS ON* - Page 69

Jeez, awaiting then 670 bios experiment. Excite.
My pair of Gigabyte OC GTX 670's is incoming tomorrow, I'll post a 3dmark11 X-preset comparison between them and my GTX 680 SLI oc'd to 1215mhz, "stock" oc on the gigabytes then "max 24/7" as well. Also can toss up a Heaven comparison... I have only run SLI with that though but 3dmark11 I have run both single- and-dual-card. Looking forward to seeing the noise level and cooling differences as well as what speed I get for saving some cash.

Very interested to see your results vs a highly OC'd 680 SLI setup. Unfortunately my Galaxy 680 maxed out at 1186Mhz core. All I want to see is over 1200Mhz on these 670's. I'll also Max OC my 670's for comparison tomorrow

are you talking boost or operating core? because 1200 is a sinch at boost speeds... mine does 1202 out of the box!

Either one I just want to see it. I also had a 7970 that maxed out at 1175Mhz. To me 1200Mhz is like the white buffalo biggrin.gif

Posted this in another 670 thread and it did not get answered. Can someone chime in here?

So one of the benefits of the windforce is that it has a 8+6 pin connector versus the 6+6 on the reference. If the voltage is locked on the 670, does the 8+6 pin really make a difference? I could see if the voltage was unlocked that the extra pin might come into play for overclocking. It just doesn't seem like thats the case though. Am I wrong in my assumption?

Some people will say that its not just about the voltage, and a better power delivery system will allow better OC's. This did seem to be the case with the 580 lightnings where they consistently clocked higher than other 580's even at similar voltage.

But with the 680 I can't say I have seen any real proof. There are still windforce cards that OC crappy and reference cards that OC great. Doesn't seem to be doing much either way.

"The GTX 670 OC is very power hungry, drawing 388W at full load. This explains the need for the 6+8-pin power adapters instead of the standard 6+6-pin found on the standard GTX 670 and the GTX 680. The charts including this information is on the following page under Power Consumption."

I would have to disagree on that.. my 2 (yes I bit the bullet and got one earlier than expected.. my credit card hates me.. haha) struggle with anything over 1250, which is by no means bad, just not as good as I was expecting considering the other Giga. cards in this thread.. Oh and my new card has a boost of 210 to mix it up a bit.. Might see if the driver update fixes the crashing, hopefull it's just a finnicky driver issue..

Oh and the EVGA backplates fit, just some screw holes can't be used (obviously as it was designed for a 680 ref card)
