Howdy all,
I'm way out of the loop when it comes to hardware (used to keep up with it, but that was a couple years ago... changes waay too fast). I'm looking to build an HTPC on the cheap. My budget is under $500, but ideally I'd like to cut it down to $300 if possible, not including the OS which I have covered.
I intend to use the system with my HDTV to watch 1080p content from the internet, hard drive, DLNA, and eventually a Blu-ray drive. I'll also use it as a music source, an emulator for old school console games, and to play some dated computer games (around the graphics level of counter strike 1.6, nothing tough). Other than that, I'd just like it to run quiet enough to not be disruptive during softer scenes in a movie.
I eventually might add a tuner, and maybe some spare drives to act as a home server, but I'm not too worried about that right now.
What would you guys recommend for a build? Can I do it for around $300? If so, am I going to be shooting myself in the foot not spending a bit more?
Thank you!
