look at what they are going to rape simcity lovers with. A polished old game and charge 59.99 with dlc to follow. I hate ea for killing my love for gaming.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

And yes, that includes Minecraft, which i played for about 30 minutes.
Thank you for not worshiping Notch like most of these people seem to do.

Then it seams you either haven't found a Indie game that you like or you just cant get around the low production value of Indie games as a whole. I'm not a huge mincraft fan but I found the game to be some what entertaining ones you get in to the whole build your own thing mind set. It reminded me of the lego stuff I used to build as a kid.

But minecraft is hardly the only good Indie game out there. Breath of death and chuthulu saves the world where a load of fun and there are many other good ones as well. Some might not consider Orcs Must Die! a Indie game but that was a load of fun as well.

Edit: I totally forgot to mention Magicka that game was totally awesome biggrin.gif Everyone should give it a try thumb.gif

Where do you think these guys started from anyways???

Yeah...Starcraft, which came out in 1998 as did HL. HL2 was in 2004 (The episodes are practically the same thing), Company of Heroes came out in 2006 and Dues Ex HR didn't innovate much if any.

Not to mention, the recent iterations of those are all sequels. Name 5 entirely new game series' that have come out in the past 3 years that aren't Indie...Seriously.

Now, for the indie titles...Super Meat Boy, Fez, Minecraft, Gratuitous Space Battles and Jamestown. Easy.

..Yeah, because actually looking at facts and seeing that Indie games generally have more innovation (Which Notch also sees) means that we worship Notch.

I like EA..cuz you know..I need an extra invasive app with a RAT running in the background and sucking up resources just so I can play a game. rolleyes.gif
I also like EA because ..after spending $60 for a game..I find out it's not the whole game..I can now dl $115 worth of stuff to make the game complete.

If it were up to Notch, PC gaming wouldn't be the same as we know it...you would see graphics take a massive decline, since graphics need a descent budget. And I'm sorry, I will never play Minecraft...ever. Seems like he managed to make a game more pointless and more time sucking than WOW. I think of Notch's work more like a fashion or fad. If you want to build and create, why not put forth your time to actually create something useful, like an actual map for an actual game, or your own game mod, or whatever. And please don't try to convince me my opinion would change if I only played Minecraft. I've seen videos and what everyone does with it. Mindless, in my opinion of course. And I can't imagine coding and developing this game to take any amount of time or effort, even for a single person. I mean, I could create every artistic asset from the entire game in a little as a few days, by myself. Not sure why this dude is now considered to be a genius, he's only a genius when it comes to time spent versus profit. Which is sort of what everyone here hates, maximum profit, minimum effort. Give Notch a AAA title and see what he can do with it...

Companies like EA or Activision are parasites on gaming , they assimilate all the noteworthy and talented studios out there and squeeze them to death.
Just look at CoD , NFS or studios like Westwood (CnC) or Maxis.
Those are just a few examples , why do you think Crysis 2 was released in such poor state on PC , surly previously PC only developer not to mention one of the best PC only developers specifically planned to embarrass themselves this way.
If you've been a gamer longer than 3 years you surly can see what EA does to gaming.
I never played Minecraft nor i plan to , i don't even know who Notch is but i fully agree with him on this subject.
While gaming is a business it also is an art and EA ONLY cares about money and NOTHING else , there is no place for art or love for gaming in corporate parasite type of business EA or Activision are running.

Why would he want anything to do with an AAA title? Why would anyone prefer an AAA title over minecraft? Games are supposed to be fun. Fancy graphics and other details are just optional. There's a reason why a lot of people think "old games" are better than recent games, they're actually fun to play.

Yeah, because Minecraft isn't a "real game", right? rolleyes.gif Neither are iphone/android/whatever games "real games", right? rolleyes.gif

You're on OCN dude, don't say people shouldn't care about graphics...people don't buy Tri-SLI 680's to make their games more "fun"...that was pretty much the typical response I expected, by the way. And I am one of those people who think old games are better than new ones. But without big budget developers, we would never have seen any of our favourite series come to life. You'll say you don't care, but trust me, you would if there were no AAA titles and all we had were "fun" games like Minecraft. Final Fantasy? Gone...Super Mario...gone...I can continue if you would like, but if games were all developed the way Notch would like, then we wouldn't have what we do today. We certainly aren't where we are today in gaming as a whole because of any of Notch's innovations, that is for sure. You're probably one of the people who think all those mini-films on youtube are better than those in the mainstream as well, don't you? Off topic, show me an indie JRPG that can compare to the likes of Final Fantasy VIII? Or an indie shooter that can compare to Quake III? Or an indie platformer that can compare to Super Mario World? Notice how old the games are that I listed, and that to this day, no indie game has even come close to those titles, even after many years and advancements in the industry. Certain aspects of indie games are usually well done, but as a whole, you can almost always tell a game is indie just by the lack of polish and coherence among the different aspects of the game. And tell me, what do you get out of Minecraft after you spend 100+ hours recreating a bridge or something out of cubes? Take that 100+ hours and put it towards a mod or something, or hell, something entirely away from a computer, that will actually gain you recognition past, "Wow, that dude is a super geek with no life, can't believe he recreated the Enterprise in Minecraft!"

Oh, and to those whining about DLC - Do you think they (any developer, not just EA) would go the DLC route if people never bought it? By purchasing the DLC, you are giving them more and more reason to keep doing it. I've NEVER paid a single cent for DLC, and never will, for that very reason. So you people complaining about it better not have ever spent a dime on it, or your being pretty hypocritical, don't you think? If DLC made a company $0, they wouldn't waste there with it at all. Makes sense, but I know that might require some thought outside of your narrow perceptions. Blame the dev though for maximizing profit, yet praise Notch...who did the same thing, to an even greater extreme. It's arguable, but spending a very small amount of time on something which creates huge revenue for him is no more noble than anything EA does...again, in my opinion. We can whine and complain all we want...but the only thing that will be listened to is how we spend our money.

Man, the only thing I know about Notch is he's behind Minecraft. I still absolutely hate EA. After that crap they pulled with Dragon Age 2, I don't think I'll ever give them any of my money ever again. Agreeing with him on this one subject doesn't make me "worship Notch".

The whole hatred for EA is because they ruin game franchises, that is what's bad for consumers. I think you got yours wires crossed whilst reading his statement.

Yes, everybody hates EA because they ruin game franchises, which is why I don't care about what quality EA puts out because the developer behind it will soon be out of business. The way their business model is designed, it is inevitable that all their developers will eventually disappear. Let's just look at Bioware. They made some really amazing games, (Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter, Mass Effect 1, Jade Empire, KotoR) and then got bought out by EA. Now, they released some good ones immediately after that, too. Dragon Age: Origins was phenomenal, and I personally liked Mass Effect 2 even if overall it was a lot simpler than the first. And now take a look at the steaming pile of dung they call Dragon Age 2 and the entire fiasco with Mass Effect 3. I can only expect the next few Bioware games will not only completely suck but also not sell well and then Bioware will disappear in a couple years. When you buy an EA game, regardless of how good it is, you support this process of destroying good quality developers. DICE, Crytek, Bioware, Need for Speed, Command & Conquer, Rare. It is inevitable.
