Jack retasking on ALC898 onboard audio

I'm wondering if there's anyone out there who's managed to get the jack retasking feature to work with the ALC898 audio chipset.

My motherboard is a Fatal1ty Z77 Professional-M and the drivers on Asrock's download page is R2.67 (6559)
I also tried with the latest version from Realtek (R2.68) but no luck.

Basically, I cannot retask the different devices I plug into the jacks.
On my previous rig, whenever I plugged a device, a window popped up asking me what kind of device I just plugged in.
Also, in the Realtek Audio HD Manager, I could simply double click on the jacks and select the type.
Now, double-clicking on those do nothing. The popup never comes up either.

I know that the ALC898 supports jack retasking, as stated in what appears to be the official datasheet
What's weird though, is that its reference doesn't even come up on Realtek's webpage or changelog/supported chipsets list.

Now I'm considering going backward with driver releases and test each of them until the jack retasking works....

Simply Uninstall your latest drivers.

Restart.

Than Download and install the lastest ones here

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Then restart.

Your Fixed...

Also, how does the ALC898 chip sound? It's the highest end realtek chip in production. thumb.gif

I tried uninstalling/reinstalling several times, from both the device manager and the programs/features window in control panel, it still doesn't allow me to retask the audio jacks.
Well, I guess I'll have to wait for Realtek to fix it.

As for the audio quality, I didn't notice much difference with their other chipsets (I use AKG K272 headphones).
I think only through professional testing software/hardware one would actually spot the differences. In practice, it doesn't matter much I'd say.

Update: Just acquired a z77 board with the ALC898 chipset. I to can not retask jacks.

Running an ASRock Z77E-ITX with ALC898, also cannot retask like I could on other Realtek chips.

Looks like there's a new driver version on realtek's website. I haven't tried it yet so I can't say if it's fixed or not but the changelog still doesn't mention the ALC898 chip as supported (though it might still work)

What driver version are you guys using ?
