Stumped!! OC made easy, not!!

Thread Starter
I' ve been oc'ing for a while now but I am stumped. My setup is:

Intel P4 640 3.2GHz
Dfi Lanparty 875pt
OCZ platinum 3200 ddr 400 el rev.2(4x512)
Maxtor maxline III 300gb
Gef0rce 7800gs co superclocked agp

My little bump omn the road is that I can't overclock period, I raise the FSB and memory goes haywire, I can stabilize the proc @ 3.4,3.7 and 4.0 Ghz
But even downclocking memory I cant stabilize it. I need help, someone who has or had a similar rig or problem please let me know before I loose it and start kicking away and destroying a nice investment.

Do you have options to change memory timings?

Anyway, even with loose timings 3-3-3-8 it seems stable but after a while it just crashes, I am not reaching for an unreasonable oc 3.6+- but this board with its many options is making it quite impossible, guys please help me out

Please fill in your "System Specs" via the USER CP link at the top of the page That carrys you specs in every post, very handy for those giving advice.

As Faranky said. It's probably your RAM's timings.
Have you tried 3-4-3-8, 3-4-4-8, or possible changing the 8 to 10? Just some known good settings that work on lots of RAM... no magic here The Intel systems arent my area but the above is well worth a shot.
Do check for stability on the RAM... ncsa has a quick mentod so you don't have to take all day, that gets you in the flow and then do a final full memtest later!
From ncsa FAQ
" Memtest:

For any change it is recommended that you use Memtest to check if this configuration is stable.

Some quick checks using this tool are:

Get your Memtest CD - make sure CD boot is prior to HDD in BIOS.

Boot system with CD in drive - Memtest should auto run and for 10-20 loops make sure that these key tests are OK – 5, 6, 8

Once running, to select Test #5
Type C 1 3 5 <enter> <enter>

Now Memtest will loop in Test #6

And for Test #6
Type C 1 3 6 <enter> <enter>

Now Memtest will loop in Test #8 (20 loops best)

And for Test #8
Type C 1 3 6 <enter> <enter>"
