The BenAdiction - My First Haf X Build

Hello everyone! I'm very excited today to be posting this! Meet... The BenAdiction.

This is actually going to be my first build. I have yet to receive all the parts. I was originally hoping to have this done by the time Diablo III comes out, but I think that deadline is going to be missed. Doesn't matter.. I'll stick to my laptop till then. Another reason I am actually pretty psyched about this build, is I've been on a laptop, and only a laptop.. For the past 5 years. I must say this laptop served me quite well! But it's time to move on, and I'm moving on big! smile.gif

Here is actually a list of the parts I will be getting.

This is what it looks like all boxed up in a pile until I have everything and have an unboxing party!

700

A few notes...
  • My PSU is a bit overkill for now, but I plan to go SLI, to overclock and possibly also go watercooling later on. Basically it's future proof.
  • My extra 120mm fan, is probably just going to be a testing fan for whatever customization I come up with. Whether it be painting or LED's, or whatever ideas you guys come up with.
  • I might want to change my bigger fan (the 230mm one) but I don't know for what yet if I ever do end up changing them.
  • The links I show aren't necessarilly where I bought them. I shopped around. It's just easier for your viewing if it's all on the same template.

I'm pretty psyched to get this done! Once I do get the parts and finish it up, I plan on sleeving it. Paracord shrinkless sleeving with red, black, and maybe white. I'm still undecided. I have never sleeved before, but heck. I think now is a better time than never to start sleeving! Am I right!? tongue.gif I haven't ordered the sleeving yet though. I'm gonna be buying it from ftwpc but they're out of Impreial Red for now. Stock due on may 7th, so leave some for me guys! I am trying to stick to a main black case theme with nice red accents. It might be small touches like fan grills, LEDs, buttons, I don't know to what extent yet, but it'll be black and red.

Direct case mods are still an unsure thing for me. I might attempt a window mod at some point, we'll see. Haha. What I do want though, is to try and switch up the power button area on the Haf X. I find the button fairly ugly and the slider plastic rather inconvenient! But that's just me. Thing is.. I just don't know what I could do to switch it up a bit yet.

Heck, I'll be honest with you guys. I'm starting this build with lots of hope, but a lack of creativity! For now, I'll start with the basics.
  • Order and receive all the pieces. (This is actually a must tongue.gif)
  • Get a working system. (Also somewhat important! haha)
  • Get good cable management.
  • Sleeve the cables in a nice black and red fashion.
  • Paint the orange corners on the fans red and the fan blades red
  • Paint the quick release tools or actually parts of them red
  • Take decent pictures to show it off while I figure out what else to do on this baby.

Oh, by the way... This makes me think. I'm sorry in advance for the ****ty pictures... All I have is my cellphone. But I'll do my best to get the most out of this little phone sensor. Also, throughout the build.. All the pictures that I take and post in this thread will be on my photobucket album for your easy viewing. The password is "Random" so enjoy.

Anyways! This is your first glimpse of many (hopefully) at "The BenAdiction" (Which I find is actually a clever little play on words if you guys actually care about it tongue.gif) I hope not to dissapoint you guys and to actually get some updates soon enough for you guys! Don't hesitate to comment, leave feedback, constructive criticism and your ideas bellow! I'm very much looking forward to all your input! That is, after all.. Why I actually posted this on OCN! I'll try not to dissapoint if you do help me!

Thanks in advance!

Cool! if I ever have any questions, I'll be sure to ask. I think I'm pretty set though! I watched enough videos tongue.gif I've got my anti-tangle tool instead of having to tape everything. I'm hoping it'll be a nice first experience! None the less. What problems have you encountered for a first time? and What tips do you have?

As for the picture... Have you tried going on the album on photobucket and see it there? And do other people see it? or is it shadow who's unlucky? tongue.gif

its just me, i checked it again an hour later and it was all good. again nice hardware. for me, DESLEEVING my power supply was a major problem because i never really thought ahead when i was building my computer thinking that i was going to be resleeving it. my PSU was nonmodular. tongue.gif so i voided that warranty. i'm also stuck on how i'm going to be sleeving the SATA power connectors cause i'm going for a completely heatshrinkless sleeving job. the only thing that i'm unable to do right now is the SATA cables... so if you've seen anything on that, let me know PLEASE.

you mentioned an antitangle tool so i assume you're doing paracord. good choice, its great quality for the price. this probably isn't an issue, but make sure you have no reason to be using your computer while you are sleeving as there will be no power going to it. tongue.gif lol. should've thought about that before i had to redo a lot of my projects.

Not meaning to hijack the thread, or force it off-topic... just helping out here. Is this what you're trying to do? You might have to scroll down a little bit to find what you want to do, but I think that thread'll help.

Glad to hear it was just you tongue.gif Desleeving shouldn't be too complacitaed for me. It's fully modular... I actually made sure of it when I bought it, haha.

As for the antitangle tool, yes. It should indeed be fairly great, and it really isn't expensive. Most likely worth the premium (as I have not tried it yet) I actually can't wait to start sleeving this paracord stuff tongue.gif and when I do, if I really do want to go on the computer... I'll use the laptop. Ha!

Don't worry about it! Hi-jacking my thread will give me valuable info. For instance. Sleeveless sata cables will be very interesting! so I'll have to take a look into it wink.gif

Besides, this thread will get back on track someday, haha

I'll soon find out! smile.gif

On another note, I finally got my HDD and it's actually a funny story!

I ordered my HDD through a website that I actually hate their updates, haha. Their shipping is usually quick and good.. but when you look at the status of the order on the website, I still see some received stuff as pending and "unshipped" so everytime I order I get a bit worrysome... Anyways. I had ordered this on the 22nd of april, and I hadn't received it yet so I was getting a bit worried. I decided to re-check the status on the website to find it still "pending" but with some tracking info... (sorta misleading eh..!) Anyways.. I decide to check the tracking info.. Purolator said.. "Delivered" Who signed it? Sonia!? Who the heck is Sonia? Where did he leave the package? At the reception!?!? I don't have a receptionnist, what is this...! And then came the time where I looked at the address... it wasn't even delivered to my address, and I couldn't find the address on google maps. ARGGG, right there I was starting to rage a bit, hahaha. So I decided to call Purolator to see what was going on... Turns out, that address where my package had been dropped, was their "drop off" location in my city. Not so bad! haha. Turns out I found it and got my HDD. And obviously.. Purolator had come to my place at some point to try and drop the package off... they at least have to try once. Turns out they did... I got a notice from Purolator one of these fridays, because I was obviously not at home at the time of the drop. So I kept my notice and said to myself I'd go tuesday if I still hadn't received it cuz I don't work on tuesdays. But then, I received a package, from purolator on monday. So since I had never read my purolator notice, I just threw it away.. but that had all the info for my HDD. Basically.. in the end... I lol'd... Awright, enough with this big chunk of text! haha.

Here's a picture of the drive.. no box, just a nice little bag for it

700

On another note, I'm debating whether I buy Scarlet Red or Imperial Red for the paracord sleeving..! Any suggestions? Also wondering... should I put some white in there also? or just red/black?
