2nd caviar for raid?

Thread Starter
do you think that i would see an increase in performance getting a 2nd western digital caviar and setting up a raid 0? or should i buy a 36Gb raptor for my games and OS?

A pair of inexpensice drives will perfome very well in RAID0. The single 36 R is good but the cost is just not worth in in MHO!

I'm doing two 250gigs in RAID0

It's definately faster, yeah.

You don't get any extra space though.

2 regular (7200rpm) hdds will be faster in RAID 0 then a single 7200rpm drive. The array will have faster random access time and faster burst speed.

1 raptor will have faster random access time then a 7200rpm drive, and may have faster burst speed depending on the format (SATA 150 or 300... but burst speed doesn't tell us much)

2 7200rpm drives in RAID will still have a slower random access time then a single Raptor... but for all practical purposes the 2 configs will give similar performance for similar prices.

2 raptors in RAID 0 will blow the doors off a 7200rpm drive or 2 7200rpm drives in RAID 0
