Crucial M4 Marvel Question

Here is my MOBO

http://www.msi.com/product/mb/P67A-GD65--B3-.html

I am getting Crucial M4 in soon..

I read on here about someone getting ~200mb/s because they plugged into marvel instead of other.

I have Black and White ports.

Which one do I plug it into to get his boost up to 500mb/s?

Or are all of mine marvel and I'm screwed? =\

• SATAIII controller integrated in Intel® P67 (B3) & Marvell SE9128 chipsets
- Up to 6Gb/s transfer speed.
- Supports two SATAIII ports (SATA1~2) by P67 (B3) PCH
- Supports two SATAIII ports (SATA7~8) by Marvell SE9128

There's your info. Sata 1&2 are native ports and will give you best performance. From the pics I can, they look like the two white ports closest to the bottom of the board.

That motherboard has four sata 3 ports, 2 of them are intel and 2 of them are marvel. As long as you use the intel chipset ports (Sata-1 or Sata-2 port, labeled in the manual) you'll be fine. They're the two ports closest to the ram slots.

Definitely use the chipset (intel) ports and not the add on marvel controller.

I think his question is answered, not to derail.. but If the only sata 6.0 connections my mobo has are Marvell than my speeds are capped lower?

It was answered but I had developed another one in the process.
I hope for your sake it's not. That would be an unfixable problem.

The Marvel controllers are quite bad, especially for SSD's. They don't have TRIM, they have higher latency, and much lower bandwidth. You'd be okay using the Marvel ports for regular HDD's or other drives if it really came down to it, but not SSD's. You'd be much better off using the native Sata 2.0 ports than the marvel 3.0 ports in almost all scenarios.

interesting. one more week of class then I'll be breaking down my sig rig. I'll have to check out the differances. That sucks.. I'm holding out for Haswell. Just need to make it till next year!
