Converting 8mm to Digital

Thread Starter
Hello guys, I'm not sure if this is the right forum but I'm looking to convert a bunch of 8mm tapes my mother has to some kind of digital format.

I looked some web sites as well some stores and they all want ridiculous amounts of money to convert them. I was hoping that I could buy a card that would allow me to connect the camcorder to the computer and record it. Could you guys recommend a capture card that can do this? I assume this is possible but if it isn't please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

So you already have an 8mm camcorder? Just get a capture card and record the camcorder's TV out.

Does you camcorder have USB or firewire? I created my high school senior video years ago by attaching the camcorder via firewire to an imac, and using iMovie to import the videos. You may only need some sort of capture software.

The camera is very old, it only has Composite video out which can be connected via a Coax cable or through 2 RCA cables.
