Blade-less Fans - Page 2

Those Dyson POS fans aren't effective at moving appreciable amounts of air at any reasonable velocity. And putting any sort of obstruction in front of or behind the fan completely kills the phenomenon upon which they're marketed. I don't understand how you could improve the static pressure of them--the design premise pretty much negates the possibility of good static pressure. And even though it's blade-less, you still have the motor inducing the airflow.

Bladed fans are the way to go for forced convective cooling.

We got one for free from my gf's work (some raffle or something like that). We used it once, it now sits in the spare bedroom.

It's not bladeless, there's still a fan with blades at the bottom. Only difference is that the airflow is directed in a different way.

Do consider that this technology is still in its beginning stages. If a way was found to make these quieter/more effective, it might be more useful in the PC market.

It is bladeless, it's just not motor-less.

Also the cost would be prohibitive, I think an air multiplier costs roughly $200 whereas you can get a standard table fan for $20 or so.

Yea i mean 200+ for a fan i got mine cheap because of my parents friend but why spend 200 when u can spend less. Then with the Extra money you can buy yourself something else.

But i must say there vacuums are amazing!

Sad part is even though the dogs can do tricks i still cant teach them to vacuum the house!doh.gif

It still has an impeller even if it doesn't have blades, you can't move the air otherwise. I have heard one of these in person and yes, they're fairly loud and have such poor airflow for the noise that there's no way you can justify the cost of it. Honestly I don't see any advantage to using a fundamentally "bladeless" design versus a traditional fan design. Proper blade design is what nets you the static pressure you need in the first place, why use fan technology that has no way to properly focus airflow?

One advantage however is those type of 'bladeless fans' don't have to be circular, you could just as easily make one that is 120x240mm if you could get the design for a 120x120mm to work.
