As for the power supply I was going to buy a modular 750- 850 Watt PSU (is this going to be enough?)

I already have two 23'' Flat panel monitors, I was going to buy 2 of the 550's and run them in SLI, so please comment me with suggestions and whatever else you think might be an improvement/better idea, I wasnt sure if it was just worth it to buy a nicer card worth ($270) or to buy 2 of the 550's ($139) a piece, again I really cant go over my budget so please dont suggest anything outrageous

Thanks guys

I would drop the velociraptor for an ssd and get another 7200 rpm to go with it. Might want to spend a little more on the graphics card too, one powerful card is better than two in sli. How much does all of this come out to so far?

Everything together including me dropping around $100 on the PSU is $1330
post #4 of 14
I know ram is cheap but do you need 16gb? Also I personally would drop the keyboard. If you are gonna spend $50 you might as well be looking at mechanical ones biggrin.gif

This setuy would be very fast the 8120 OC beter then the 8150 with a 180 gig ssd its the same 1 Im running very fast 8 gigs of high peformance ram will handle everything exsept vidio edatting thier you need more Im running two 23inch monitors on a 570 no problem and I came up with the same as you at 1330
post #6 of 14
I've only got a single card in my setup, so I don't know too much about the mechanics of SLI/Crossfire setups. If you wanted to go the multiple-card route, though, you could potentially go with Crossfired 6850s. They're about the same price as the higher-end 550 Tis, and it looks like they perform better in Tom's charts. If you wanted to go single-card, best around that range is the 570 or HD 7850. If you go with the 570, I'd probably spend a few bucks more and get the Evga; I'm not a fan of Galaxy at all.

Like Truckerguy and Reptile said, 16 GB of RAM is more than likely overkill. Like TG also said, save yourself some money, get the 8120, and OC it instead of getting the 8150.

With shipping before any discounts it's $1140.89. After discounts it would be around $1106.89. Like others have stated your better off going with a FX-8120 over the 8150, 16Gb is a bit overkill at the moment and an SSD with a 1Tb storage drive is well worth it.

No its not......Take 2 6950s vs 1 7950 for example. The 7950 is outperformed.

Or 2 560Tis instead of a 580......

OP, 2 550s are useless though. I'd suggest either 2 460s or 2 470s, if not a couple or even a single 6950.

I agree with all that except the cooler and video card choice.

The 212+ doesnt perform as well as the 212 EVO....I suppose if you cant afford anymore on the video card its a reasonable choice. But TBH, i'd rather spend the extra 50-90$ to get a 7950....

if you're an avid gamer i would spend less on maybe the case and get a better Gcard
post #10 of 14
for that price you should be able to build a killer gaming rig but right now something just doesnt look realy powerfull with that build ;/
*EDIT*
mmmm ths should do the trick :
