Upgrade My Rig for D3 w/ $550 (SSD/GPU/Monitor Decided)

Thread Starter
Im trying to sell my laptop for $550 and have gotten the OK from the wife to spend that money upgrading my outdated Sig Rig. right now anything is fair game but it must be under $550 shipped.

i was thinking 2 possible paths....keep my MOBO/ CPU/ RAM and get a SSD, Video card, and maybe a new monitor (mine has a major scratch and a line of yellow running through the center.) Or get a new MOBO/CPU/ RAM and get a little more out my 4850 before upgrading.

I Would like to be able to max out D3 and minimize load times and i realize that i really want to redo my whole computer....but the budget doesn't allow that. Let me know what you guys think as far as the best path and parts to stay in my budget!

Edit: Im not even sure if my Powersupply is even compatible with core i5/i7 something to look into tomorrow i guess

i would get a ssd and a new graphics card.. D3 won't be too taxing by the looks of things.

...but i think you would definitely benefit from a new graphics card.

What? For $550? Get a 2500k + any p67 motherboard + 8GB DDR3. That should cost $300 tops. Use the $250 left to grab a 6950 or 560Ti. SSDs are great and all for boot times and what not, but I would much rather have a whole new system over just getting a SSD. Everything else should be fine even that PSU should be OK for those upgrades.

Although, you may not have a MC near you to grab a 2500k for $170. But still, $100 max for motherboard, $50 max for RAM, and $200 for the processor still leaves $200 for a GPU which I got my 560 ti and a 6950 for under $200 each.

it nice to get the ssd, but I would suggest getting the video card and monitor, seeing that your monitor has that problem. Not sure how you used that until now. with $550 there should be a little change left over for the ssd.

If he browses the FS section, I saw a 560 Ti for $160, and 6950 for $170, a 2500k is on there for $150, it is easily doable. Even if he browsed his local craigslist, he could find a cheap monitor for under $50.
